Despite leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe behind, actor Chris Evans will always be Steve Rogers to many fans. His career-defining role lasted the better part of a decade and made him lifelong friends in his fellow Avengers. Is Evans older or younger than most of his co-stars from the films?

Evans began acting when he was in his teens. He started as a model and moved to New York, then Los Angeles, to pursue a career in Hollywood. Evans broke out in his 20s with his roles in the Fantastic Four franchise and other films like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Following two decades in the business, Evans is best known for his long-standing role in the MCU. Playing Captain America took him from rising star to A-lister. But he couldn’t have done it without the rest of his ensemble cast, most of whom he falls somewhere in the middle of, age-wise.

He’s older than Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, and Sebastian Stan

One of the MCU actors Evans has worked with the most is Scarlett Johansson. (They even starred opposite one another in two movies — The Perfect Score and The Nanny Diaries — before becoming superheroes). The pair first teamed up for The Avengers and had memorable moments in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Endgame. But Johansson is more than three years younger than him.

Another MCU star Evans started working with in The Avengers is Chris Hemsworth. The two original Chris’ (before Chris Pratt made them a trio) bonded even more off-screen than one, sharing funny moments in interviews. Evans is a little over two years older than Hemsworth.

But before he joined the team in the 21st Century, Steve Rogers was, above all else, Bucky Barnes’ best friend. Evans and Sebastian Stan began their on-screen bromance with Captain America: The First Avenger. Evans is about a year older than Stan. Interestingly, this is the reverse of their characters, born in March 1917 (Bucky) and July 1918 (Steve).

Evans is younger than Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner

Robert Downey Jr. is the oldest of the original six Avengers actors. Though Tony and Steve clash from the start, they work together until Captain America: Civil War, when everything changes. They eventually make up to take down Thanos, and after Tony dies, Steve retires. Evans is 16 years younger than Downey Jr.

Next up is Mark Ruffalo. Bruce Banner (aka the Hulk) and Steve get along, though they don’t share too many notable scenes just the two of them. Ruffalo isn’t out of the MCU just yet (he’ll make an appearance in She-Hulk), meaning that, at more than 12 years older than Evans, he’s the oldest remaining Avenger.

Last is Jeremy Renner. Clint Barton and Steve aren’t best friends, but Hawkeye took his Cap’s side in Civil War. Like Ruffalo, Renner returns in an upcoming Disney+ series, which will likely mark his transition out of the MCU. Evans is 10 years younger than Renner, who also celebrated a milestone birthday (50) in 2021.
