It’s been nearly one year since Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth shocked the world by announcing their split. Though the former couple had been married for less than a year at the time, they’d been together on and off for the better part of a decade.

Since the duo seemed relatively happy, fans were shocked when following the announcement, the Hunger Games star immediately fled Los Angeles for his home in Australia. Meanwhile, Cyrus began a very public relationship with her then-friend, Kaitlyn Carter.

Since then, the former couple’s relationship has been finalized and they’ve both moved on. The songstress is currently in a relationship with singer Cody Simpson while Hemsworth has been seeing model, Gabriella Brooks. However, that hasn’t stopped the actor’s older brother, Chris Hemsworth from subtly shading his former sister-in-law.

Miley Cyrus never got along with Liam Hemsworth’s mother

Though the songstress had a close bond with the Hemsworth brothers and Chris Hemsworth’s wife, Elsa Pataky, not everyone in the actor’s family was so keen on seeing them together. It seems like Hemsworth matriarch, Leonie Hemsworth, never quite warmed up to the songstress.

“His mom is feeling so relieved that Liam made the decision to end the relationship as his entire family, but her especially, always struggled approving Miley,” an alleged insider told Hollywood Life. “[Liam] really struggled with the break-up and is going to be cautious and slow heading into the next relationship. It’s now very important for him to have his mother’s stamp of approval and he seems to be going in a different direction with what he’s looking for in a partner this time around. He’s really listening to his mother.”

Elsa Pataky is no longer a fan of Miley Cyrus

At one point, Cyrus and Pataky were super close as sisters-in-law. They even got matching tattoos together. Unfortunately, following Cyrus’ split with Hemsworth, the tides changed.

“My brother-in-law, well…After a relationship that you’ve dedicated ten years to, he’s a little bit down, but he’s coping well,” Pataky revealed during a November 2019 appearance. “He’s a strong boy and he deserves the best, I think he deserves much better.  You always find support in your family, and he’s joined at the hip with his brother, who has been there to give all the strength he needed.”

Cyrus never responded to Pataky’s critique of her, but it looks like there are still some hurt feelings in the Hemsworth family.

Chris Hemsworth may have just shaded Miley Cyrus

During a recent interview, the elder Hemsworth commented on how much happier his brother is now, “Did you see the Men’s Health cover? I thought, ‘Not bad kid. Not bad’,” the Thor actor said to News.com.au.” He’s out there training and staying fit, and back in Australia doing his thing. It’s Australian living, I guess. We got him out of Malibu!”

For his own part, Liam Hemsworth is in a much better place. “For a long period of time, it was very stressful, and it really got to me,” he told Men’s Health. “Constantly under a microscope. These days, I don’t want to invest any more time in worrying about that sort of stuff. I remind myself of what to appreciate now and to enjoy every moment as much as possible, whether that be working or with my family or whatever I’m doing. Just trying to find a positive in it all and enjoy life as much as possible.”
