Chris Stapleton has not only written hit songs he’s got a successful career as a solo artist. The Kentucky-born singer-songwriter has joined the ranks of Bebe Rexha, Lady Gaga, and Bruno Mars, just a few musicians in the entertainment industry who started out writing songs for other people. He didn’t know he could make a career out of writing songs

Like OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, Stapleton has had a steady career not only as a songwriter but as a performing artist too. Although there’d been a time when Stapleton didn’t know he could make writing songs a career. In a 2016 interview with CBS News, Stapleton said at one time he thought musicians only performed songs they wrote.

“I didn’t know they would pay you money to sit in a room and write songs for other people,” he said. “I always thought that George Strait was singing a song, he made it up, and that was the end of it. But the instant I found that out, that that could be a job, I thought, ‘That’s the job for me. I gotta figure out how to do that.'”

Figure it out he did. In the same interview, Stapleton said he’d written “pushing 200” or “something like that” songs that had been recorded by other people.

Stapleton moved to Nashville, Tenn., in 2001 where he began pursuing a career as a songwriter. Over the years the music industry began taking note of his talent and he developed a reputation for writing hit songs. 

Stapleton’s written songs for a wide range of artists. He wrote Tim McGraw’s “Whiskey and You,” Sheryl Crow’s “Homesick,” and Adele’s “If It Hadn’t Been For Love” just to name a few, according to Country Living.

Others who have recorded songs written by Stapleton include George Strait, Lee Ann Womack, Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan, Kellie Pickler, Darius Rucker, Thomas Rhett, Alan Jackson, Little Big Town, and Blake Shelton.

He has an estimated net worth of $12 million

According to a 2019 article from Yahoo! Finance, Stapleton is among the 20 richest stars in country music. In 2015 following the release of his debut album, Traveller, Stapleton dominated the Country Music Awards by winning Best New Artist despite having worked in the industry for years. He also took home Album of the Year and Best Male Vocalist.

Stapleton’s estimated net worth of $12 million comes from his earnings as a songwriter and his career as a solo artist. He’s continued to earn money from his own record sales with Traveller selling more than 2 million copies. And in 2017 he released his second studio album, From A Room Volume 1 and From A Room Volume 2

Chris Stapleton’s won 5 Grammys 

While Stapleton’s been a familiar name in the music industry for years he didn’t become widely known until 2015 when he won his first two Grammys. Traveller earned him Grammys for Country Performance and Country Album.

He returned to the Grammys in 2018 as a nominee and went home with three awards in the categories of Country Album, Country Song, and Country Solo Performance. He’s been nominated a total of 13 times likely with more to come. 

With concert tours and more songs from Stapleton getting released, it’s no doubt his net worth will only get bigger and bigger with each passing year.
