Who is Pepper Teigen?

Pepper Teigen is the mother of Chrissy and Tina. She hails from Korat, a city in Thailand’s Isaan region.

Pepper, whose real name is Vilailuck, spent the better part of her childhood helping her mother cook.

Pepper emigrated to Utah in the early 1980s. She tried to replicate the tastes of home in her small town.

However, she struggled to find the necessary ingredients.

She married Teigen’s father, Ron, in 1983. When the Teigen family lived in Washington, she and Ron ran a small-town tavern, Porky’s. Subsequently, Pepper learned to cook American food for her customers.

“It’s where she earned her nickname Pepper. Restaurant patrons tried some chili flake-heavy dishes, which she’d made for herself, and found themselves ‘screaming,’” reported Bustle.

The half-hour special will make its debut in November on The Food Network and on the streaming hub, Discovery Plus.

Pepper will share the stage with her eldest daughter, Tina. Together, the women will cook recipes inspired by family favorites. The half-hour special is executive produced by Pepper’s youngest daughter Teigen.

“The Teigen’s have shared their love of cooking and entertaining on their popular social media channels and in their best-selling cookbooks,” said Courtney White, president, Food Network & streaming food content at Discovery Inc.

“We are thrilled to bring their a special look at the whole family in action. Cooking and eating together like never seen before,” White continued.

In a statement published by Variety, Pepper said she wants to show viewers how easy it is to create Thai dishes at home.

However, those who believe that Pepper’s recipes are all about blazing hot food will be pleasantly surprised.

Pepper will show how she balances heat with the sweet, salty, and sour tastes of traditional Thai dishes.

“I’m so excited to share my family’s favorite recipes that we’ve been making and eating for a long time,” said Pepper.

“I can’t wait for viewers to see how easy it is to make Thai food at home. After they try these recipes, I know that fish sauce will soon be the new ketchup and pantry staple!”

FoodNetwork.com/GettingSpicy will publish links to the recipes featured on the special.

Getting Spicy With Pepper Teigen will debut on Saturday, Nov. 6 at noon EST on Food Network.
