Christian Bale is joining Chris Hemsworth

Bale is in discussions to star in the fourth Thor film, Thor: Love and Thunder. Taika Waititi, who directed 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, is set to return to direct this film.

Bale would join titular star Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman. So far, Marvel did not provide a comment on the casting, which was exclusively reported by Collider. Bale’s role is being kept secretive as of now.

Plot details are scant, but it is confirmed that Portman’s Jane Foster will be a female Thor in the film. Thompson’s Valkyrie, the new King of Asgard, will be the first major LGTBQ character in the MCU.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Waititi said, “That storyline is incredible is full emotion, love and thunder and introduces for the first time female Thor.”

Speculation about Christian Bale’s MCU character

A common early theory is that Bale could be playing Beta Ray Bill. Fans are already heavily onboard for the idea and think it is a great one. The character, an alien warrior, has the same powers of Thor and is the true wielder of Stormbreaker, which is what Thor used in the battles against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Thor and Beta Ray Bill have been both rivals and allies in different comic runs.

“If christian bale is beta ray bill then that’s the greatest casting in cbm history,” tweeted one person.

Another person said, “holy f**k christian bale as beta ray bill would be the best casting i never even thought of that.”

“I remember being on the set of the first #Thor movie and asking about #BetaRayBill. If Christian Bale is playing him…well, my brain might explode a bit. It’s already leaking out of my ears, seeing Bill trending,” said someone else.

Christian Bale’s last superhero film

Bale isn’t a newbie to superhero films. He portrayed Batman in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy: Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008), and The Dark Knight Rises.

If Bale’s deal goes through, this means he will join a select group of actors that have portrayed characters in both the MCU and the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

Thor: Love and Thunder has a release date of November 5, 2021.
