The ‘Flip or Flop’ stars called it quits in 2016

After two kids, seven years of marriage, and a successful HGTV series Haack and El Moussa announced their separation in December 2016.

“We chose to get counseling to sort out our relationship,” they told Us in a statement. “Together, we have decided to separate while we reevaluate the future of our marriage.”

“During this process, we are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be,” they added. “We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together.”

Haack and El Moussa’s marriage eventually ended in 2018 when they officially divorced. Meanwhile, their work continued. They appeared alongside each other on Flip or Flip for 10 seasons until the series finale in March 2022.

Haack opened up about the split to Good Housekeeping in August 2017. Now the star of her own series with another HGTV show in the works, Haack revealed couple’s therapy with El Moussa made for a “difficult” situation with her parents who, as the publication notes, have been married for decades.

“I wasn’t very vocal with them about some of the issues that Tarek and I were having,” she said. “So all of the sudden it’s like bam — I’ve moved out, I’m living at my nanny’s house. It came as a shock to 99.9% of people, including my parents.”

Haack continued, saying after couple’s therapy made them realize their marriage was over, El Moussa talked to her parents the most. Because of that things were “difficult” for Haack.

“Tarek was talking to them more than I was at first, and that made it a little difficult because they were just hearing his side,” she explained. The now-38-year-old continued: “They were hoping we would be able to reconcile, especially for the kids, and also because Tarek and I had built such a life together.”

“We were involved in every aspect of each other’s life, we still are,” she added. “But in the end, it’s mine and Tarek’s decision, and only ours.”
