Former NFL player and The Bachelor Season 23 lead, Colton Underwood, told viewers on Good Morning America that he is gay. While searching for love on the reality TV series, the 29-year-old had an awkward conversation with comedian Billy Eichner. However, now that the video resurfaced, The Bachelor fans believe the interaction is genuinely heartbreaking.

Why did Cassie and Colton split after ‘The Bachelor’?

Colton Underwood was famously known as the first, virgin Bachelor. Fans also never forgot how he jumped a fence after Cassie Randolph left his season. Underwood ended his relationships with the other two women in a shocking turn of events and professed his love to Cassie. The couple dated from November 2018 until May 2020. 

Randolph and Underwood both told the public of their breakup on Instagram on May 29, 2020. Things seemed amicable at the time, and they insisted they wanted to remain friends. However, on Sept. 11, 2020, Randolph filed a restraining order against Underwood. She alleged that he stalked her, sent harassing text messages, and installed a tracking device on her car.

Former ‘Bachelor’ Colton Underwood revealed he is gay on ‘Good Morning America’

On April 14, 2021, former Bachelor Colton Underwood spoke to Robin Roberts on Good Morning America. He explained that during the COVID-19 quarantine, he realized something about himself.

“For me, I’ve run from myself for a long time, and I’ve hated myself for a long time, and I’m gay,” Underwood told the outlet. “I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it,” Underwood told Roberts. “The next step in all of this was sort of letting people know. I’m still nervous, but it’s been a journey for sure.”

‘The Bachelor’ Underwood and Billy Eichner video resurfaced

When Colton Underwood starred as The Bachelor for season 23, comedian Billy Eichner hosted the second group date with host Chris Harrison. Before the camp competition began, the three men chatted about what the lead looks for in a woman.

“The first thing I do…I’m gay; I know that’s a shock, Colton, and that I think you should look into it,” Eichner teased Underwood. “Maybe you’re the first gay Bachelor, and we don’t even know. Put that in your promo. See you later!”

Underwood had no words for Eichner after the comment. The lead said, “I, I, I,” and awkwardly laughed along with the comedian. However, fans are heartbroken for Colton while rewatching The Bachelor moment.

“This is painful to rewatch,” one viewer wrote on the YouTube video. “I can’t imagine how uncomfortable and confused Colton must’ve felt at this time.”

Some fans laughed and joked that Eichner was correct. However, others felt terrible for what Underwood was going through at the time.

“Yeah, I get it’s fun to poke fun at this, but if you are gay and closeted, you’d realize how not funny something like this is,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “The pit you have in your stomach while others laugh at the tongue-in-cheek joke is such a horrible feeling.”
