The Duggar family does things differently than most American families. Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar raised their kids with very strict rules — and that includes not watching television. However, as some of the Duggars have grown up and started families of their own, a few have branched out and started watching more mainstream television.

Joy Duggar and Austin Forsyth recently gave fans a tour of their home, and a TV was nowhere to be found.

Michelle and Jim Bob didn’t allow their kids to watch TV growing up

The Duggar family was raised very sheltered from mainstream media. Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar homeschooled their children, and for the most part, the kids only interacted with other members of their church or surrounding churches. Michelle and Jim Bob also did not allow their kids to watch mainstream television or listen to modern music.

The Duggars are very religious, and everything they do is meant to better their relationship with God. Music and television don’t typically promote God, so the kids didn’t have it in their lives. The children were not allowed to dance, either, since it could promote promiscuity.

Some of the Duggars have started watching television

Now that several of Michelle and Jim Bob’s older kids have married and moved out, a few of them have started living by their own rules. Jill, Jessa, and Jinger Duggar all now wear pants, which is something they were not allowed to do growing up. And Jinger Duggar has started watching television; she recently shared that her favorite show is Madame Secretary.

Anna Duggar, who is married to Josh Duggar, also revealed that her family watches television. The Duggars likely pick and choose the shows they watch and probably don’t stray toward anything that would go against their values.

Joy and Austin’s home tour proves they do not watch television

Some of the Duggars are still following closely in their parents’ footsteps. Although Jill Duggar has been rebelling lately, fans recalled that she did not have a TV during her home tour — neither did Jessa Duggar. And now, Joy and Austin Forsyth seem to also still be obeying the Duggar rule of no television.

Joy and Austin recently gave fans a tour of their new home, which they remodeled entirely on their own. Though there are still a few things that need to be done, the two have mostly decorated everything. Still, though, there was no TV to be found in the couple’s home, showing that they haven’t strayed too far from Duggar’s parents’ rules.

Fans loved the couple’s home

Joy and Austin posted their video to YouTube, and fans loved their home. The comments section was filled with positivity. “Your house is really sweet. Perfect for a young family to start out in,” one user wrote. “Beautiful home Joy and Austin!  I love the floor to ceiling white curtains as well,” someone else commented. “Not even 3 minutes in and I LOVE your plants,” another user added.

Joy and Austin recently announced that they’re expecting a little girl. They didn’t seem to have a nursery set up yet, but it’s likely one of the next projects on their list.
