‘Criminal Minds’: A.J. Cook Talks About the ‘Anxiety’ She Experienced From the JJ and Reid Situation

Cook plays JJ and she recently revealed some surprising information about the situation involving her character and Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler). Read on to learn more.
Why A.J. Cook had ‘anxiety’ about the JJ and Reid situation
TVLine recently spoke with Cook about her time on the show and more specifically, the situation involving her character and Reid. It was an interesting scenario between two best friends that could have possibly been more. Cook says the whole thing gave her a lot of “anxiety.”
“Well, it was a balancing act, for sure. I had so much anxiety about the whole thing from the get-go, but I just trusted in the process and I think it worked out really well,” Cook revealed. “After doing a show for as long as we have, I feel like we somehow earned the right to go there, even though it’s not what we usually do.”
JJ revealed some startling information to Reid
The situation in question involved JJ’s reveal to Reid in the season 14 finale. She told him she’s always loved him, even though the two are supposed to be best friends and colleagues. Numerous fans weren’t happy about the turn of events.
“It was a really interesting twist, and it definitely made both of our characters grow in the areas that they needed to grow,” Cook continued. “It’s that thing of the ‘underlying crush’ or whatever that is, or the intimacy and friendship between those two and the lines that get mucked up in between, where things needed to be said. And now they’re better off for it. Sometimes, you have to let go of something to have it really come back home, so I think it was really brave of our writers to do that.”
Fans weren’t happy about the Jeid situation
Even though fans weren’t actually here for the whole thing, the situation has been resolved between the friends. Viewers of Criminal Minds were up in arms when they weren’t sure what was going to happen between JJ and Reid. Many fans didn’t want the best friends to be anything other than friends. Still others were hoping for a JJ and Reid love connection to develop.
Unfortunately it’s impossible to please everyone, and that goes for Criminal Minds fans as well. A lot of viewers are glad the whole thing has been shoved under the rug. Others see it as unnecessary drama between two friends because they think things were already fine the way they were.
Fans aren’t ready to say goodbye to Criminal Minds after fifteen successful seasons. Viewers will get to see JJ and Reid again before the series comes to a close.
