‘Criminal Minds’: Dr. Spencer Reid Once Pranked Derek Morgan in the Best Way
Although the hit series Criminal Minds is over, it hasn’t stopped fans from reminiscing about their favorite moments in the series. Fans on Reddit recently discussed an iconic moment between Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore). It involves the two of them going at each other with various pranks, but Reid gets the last laugh.
Dr. Spencer Reid and Derek Morgan prank each other
In season 7, episode 4, Reid and Morgan decide to take each other on when they start pulling pranks on one another. Derek speaks to the press in regards to the case they’re working on, and gives out Reid’s phone number as well as claiming he’s Dr. Spencer Reid himself. Reid starts getting phone calls, and he finally answers while really heated.
“Hi, this is Dr. Spencer Reid,” He says. “I actually can come to the phone right now with a very special message that your mother is…” But he gets cut off by Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson). He apologizes, and Reid seems to have figured out that Morgan is behind the phone calls. Before walking away, he mentions he’s going to “crush” him.
Reid once pranked Morgan in the best way
After the case is solved, the team heads back home, and Morgan is listening to music with headphones. However, the song gets cut off, and he hears Reid through the headphones instead.
“We interrupt your regularly scheduled musical selection with an important announcement,” Reid can be heard saying. “Never wage a practical joke war against an MIT graduate because we have a history of going nuclear. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the dulcet sounds of me screaming in your ear.” Reid starts screaming through the headphones, and Morgan has to take them off.
“OK kid that was cute,” Morgan says. “But that’s all you got?” Spencer has his eyes closed, with the appearance of him sleeping.
Suddenly, Derek gets a phone call, and he thinks it’s Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness). He answers it, but it’s just Reid screaming some more. Reid smiles with his eyes still closed, and Derek says “It’s on.”
Fans react to the iconic moment
A fan recently posted about the epic moment on Reddit where other fans decided to weigh in. The fan posted an image of Reid pretending to be asleep during the memorable moment. “Reid’s phone prank on Derek lives in my mind rent-free. 😭 Look how adorable,” the post is captioned.
One fan mentions that they enjoyed seeing Emily Prentiss’ (Paget Brewster) reaction to hearing Reid in Morgan’s headphones. “A fav part of this scene for me is also Prentiss’ reaction when she hears Reid’s wailing through Morgan’s headphones,” they said.
“Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the dulcet sounds of me screaming in your ear. AAAAAAAAHHHHH!” someone else wrote.
One fan thinks it’s “one of the best scenes” in the series. “This is one of the best scenes in the entire show! It makes me so happy every time,” they said.
A fan lives for these “moments” between the characters. “I absolutely live for these moments. They really are a family,” said the fan.
Another says when they see this scene, it makes them laugh, and who can blame them? “Every time I see it, it makes me laugh,” a fan admits.
Dr. Spencer Reid got Derek Morgan back in the best way, and fans certainly noticed.
