‘Criminal Minds’: Why 1 of the Best Scenes in the Show Involves the BAU Agents at a Bar
Criminal Minds is an iconic show that’s had more than a few amazing scenes. Some fans consider a moment that occurred in season 2 as one of the best. Read on to find out why it involves a few of the female BAU agents at a bar.
JJ, Emily, and Penelope go to a bar
The moment takes place in season 2, episode 21 called “Open Season.” Jennifer “JJ” Jareau (A.J. Cook), Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), and Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) meet a guy in a bar that has no idea what he’s in for. They make the most of a lighthearted situation and it’s hilarious to watch.
Prentiss brings over a guy from the bar who seems to have chatted her up for quite some time. “Ladies, this is Brad, a real FBI agent,” Prentiss tells JJ and Garcia.
“Really?” Garcia inquires further.
“No way,” JJ says.
The ladies have fun at Brad’s expense
“That’s exciting what’s it like at Quantico?” Garcia asks as she also makes a point to pronounce Quantico incorrectly at the same time.
“It’s uh, quite impressive,” Brad tells them.
JJ asks, “What department are you in?”
“That’s classified,” Brad responds.
“It must be really tough keeping all those secrets,” JJ continues.
“You know, it’s a skill like anything else,” Brad responds again. “Carpenters are good at building stuff, measuring. The FBI is good at keeping secrets and kicking criminal ***.”
They all laugh at him as Prentiss says, “Well, somebody’s gotta do it. Oh, do you have to carry your gun and badge with you everywhere you go?”
Brad replies with, “Affirmative.”
Can we see your badge?
Prentiss continues to have fun with him and asks, “Can we see it?” Brad plays dumb and asks what she wants to see, which Prentiss responds back with, “Your badge.”
“Sorry that’s…” Brad starts as the ladies finish for him, “Classified.”
“Tell me Brad does it look anything like this?” Prentiss asks as she shows off her credentials.
“Or this?” JJ asks as she too pulls out her badge.
“Or maybe this?” Garcia says as she does the same.
He stares at them all blankly and then walks off. The ladies laugh and try to enjoy themselves before the next case conveniently comes in.
Fans love the bar scene with JJ, Emily, and Penelope
Fans seriously love the scene that still has us all cracking up years later. The three BAU agents are quick to have fun and make the most of the situation, even when dealing with lying men trying to pick them up.
“I love that they jump into character immediately,” a Reddit user observed. “Emily’s like, ‘I’m a thirsty woo girl; back me up,’ and JJ and Garcia are like, ‘cool, we’re your dumb blonde friends.’”
“Prentiss brought him over to share the joke with Garcia and JJ,” someone else wrote.
Prentiss really shined in the scene and fans noticed. “Emily is so perfectly ruthless in this scene and I’m living for it,” a Reddit user chimed in. “Despite being the new character in Season 2, she totally owned so many of the scenes she was in right away.”
Criminal Minds is full of fun moments, but to hear fans tell it, this is definitely one of the top ones.
