‘Cruel Summer’: What Is Olivia Holt’s Age? She Once Played a Marvel Superhero
The latest soapy teen mystery in the vein of Pretty Little Liars and You is Cruel Summer. The drama premiered on Freeform in April 2021, and it — and its stars — have the internet abuzz. Learn more about star Olivia Holt, including how old she is and her past as a Marvel superhero.
Olivia Holt stars as Kate Wallis in ‘Cruel Summer’
Cruel Summer premiered on April 20, 2021. The Freeform series follows the intertwined lives of two teenage girls, Jeanette Turner and Kate Wallis, over three summers. In 1993, Kate goes missing. In 1994, she’s found. And in 1995, she’s caught up in a legal battle with Jeanette over the ordeal.
Holt portrays Kate. She’s a pretty, popular girl who Jeanette envies. But even before she’s abducted, her life has begun to unravel. After she comes home, Kate is forever changed. She struggles to figure out how to adjust to her new world. Oh, and she’s still keeping a secret (or two).
She got her start on the Disney Channel
Holt’s big break came as a teenager when she was cast in the Disney XD series Kickin’ It. She portrayed Kim, one of the members of the martial arts academy at the center of the show. She starred in the first three seasons of the series alongside fellow cast members like Leo Howard and Jason Earles.
Holt left Kickin’ It to star in another Disney comedy, I Didn’t Do It. The series features her character, Lindy Watson, her twin brother, Logan, and their three best friends. I Didn’t Do It was canceled after two seasons on the Disney Channel. Holt also appeared in episodes of Disney Channel shows Shake It Up and Dog With a Blog.
Holt played Tandy Bowen in ‘Cloak & Dagger’
After a few less-than-popular films, Holt was cast in a project through another Disney-affiliated channel. She starred as Tandy Bowen in the Freeform series Cloak & Dagger. After the runaway teenager connects with Tyrone Johnson, they discover the powers that link them together, obtained in an accident when they were children.
Based on the Marvel comic book characters, Cloak & Dagger aired for two seasons on Freeform before the network canceled it in 2019. Though not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is part of a Marvel TV universe — Holt reprised her role in two episodes of Marvel’s Runaways Season 3.
What is Olivia Holt’s age?
Holt has been portraying a teenager since she actually was one. Though she celebrated her 23rd birthday in August 2020, she still relates to her character. “I think that’s what teenage girls are constantly battling with, they’re all trying to find out who they are,” she told Teen Vogue. “I’m in my early 20s, and I’m still trying to figure that out.”
In addition to acting, Holt, like many other Disney stars, has also pursued a music career. She released one album, simply titled Olivia, in 2016, via Disney’s Hollywood Records. Since then, she has released several singles and collaborations, including her April 2021 track “Love On You.”
