Dak Prescott’s net worth is more than you think. On paper, the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, doesn’t have the staggering net worth of Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers. But he’s in for a big payday very soon. Here’s what you need to know about Dak Prescott’s net worth, his salary cap, and what the Cowboys plan to pay him in the future.

The Cowboys plan to pay Dak Prescott what ‘he deserves’

NFL.com reported in spring 2018 that “There is no greater bargain in sports than a starting NFL quarterback on a rookie contract. That deal grows by the nth degree when that quarterback is a mid-to-late-round pick, like Dak Prescott.” The fourth-round pick signed a four-year contract in 2016, worth just $2.7 million total — that’s less than what slot receiver Cole Beasley will make in base salary this year ($3.25 million).”

Prescott will make just $630,000 in base salary in 2018. NFL.com also reports that Prescott’s “$725,848 cap hit is the 35th highest on the Cowboys, less than the likes of Charles Tapper ($784,470), Chaz Green ($877,234) or Joe Looney ($975,000).”

NFL.com reports that Prescott is eligible for a contract extension after the 2018 season, and while he’s set to earn a $720,000 base salary in 2019, “This year could be the last that the Cowboys own the luxury of paying the starting quarterback less than a backup center.” The publication adds, “With the going rate for starting QBs soaring well past the $100 million figure, the Cowboys know they’ll soon need to pay the QB piper.”

He supplements his salary with endorsement deals and licensing royalties

ESPN reported in September 2017 that “No NFL player signed more endorsement deals this offseason than Dak Prescott.” The publication reported, “For his head, he has New Era caps and Beats by Dre headphones. For his appetite, he has Campbell’s Chunky Soup and Tostitos tortilla chips. For his thirst, he has Pepsi and 7-Eleven. For private travel, it’s Nicholas Air.” Additionally, he signed deals with AT&T, DirecTV, and card company Panini America.

At the time, ESPN noted, “Combine all Prescott’s deals together, industry insiders tell ESPN.com, he’ll make at least $2.5 million, nearly five times his on-field salary.” And as the publication added, “The money Prescott makes in endorsements doesn’t include the extra money he’ll make in licensing royalties.”

Dak Prescott’s net worth is impressive, but low for an NFL quarterback

Celebrity Net Worth reports that Dak Prescott’s net worth is about $2 million. That’s a big increase from the $316,000 that Bankrate reported Prescott was worth in 2017. $2 million sounds like a lot of money — but it’s not much for an NFL quarterback. He doesn’t come anywhere close to landing on the list of the wealthiest NFL quarterbacks. Plus, Prescott’s net worth is due to increase dramatically when he gets a new contract.

USA Today reports that “Not only is [Prescott’s] salary staggeringly low, but the cap hit for the Cowboys is virtually nothing when compared to other quarterbacks in 2018.” ESPN notes that “even when you compare him to other rookie-contract quarterbacks, Prescott is a bargain.” Carson Wentz’s initial rookie contract is guaranteed for four years and $26.7 million. Deshaun Watson has a four-year, $13.8 million deal. Meanwhile, Prescott’s entire four-year contract pays him a total of $2.7 million, and most of that wasn’t guaranteed.

If the Cowboys give Prescott an extension before the 2020 campaign, ESPN reports, they’ll end up paying Prescott just over $2 million for three years as their starting quarterback. Jimmy Garoppolo, on the other hand, will make more than $2.6 million per game this season. And while Prescott will get approximately $950,000 via the league’s performance-based pay system, “that doesn’t touch the Cowboys’ cap,” ESPN explains.
