Though there are plenty of memorable moments within the eight seasons of Dance Moms, one that always stands out to fans is when Chloé Lukasiak and her mother, Christi Lukasiak, return to the show. In the mid-season finale of season 7, the pair surprise the Abby Lee Dance Company Junior Elite Competiton Team after they’ve won nationals and it’s an emotional moment for fans and many of the Dance Moms cast members.

As diehard fans will recall, Chloé and Christi were original members of the Dance Moms cast. Chloé was one of the most talented dancers on the team and the pair were easily fan favorites from season 1 to season 4. Unfortunately, Chloé’s time on the show was far from a cakewalk. Because of Christi’s volatile relationship with Chloé’s dance teacher, Abby Lee Miller, Chloé was often treated very badly.

Why did Chloé Lukasiak and Christi Lukasiak really leave ‘Dance Moms’?

It was common for Chloé to be pitted against other dancers, Maddie Ziegler, in particular. And Miller was constantly berating her. Chloé was accused of being a “sneak”, shamed for attending regular school instead of being homeschooled, called “girl” instead of her name, given substandard choreography, and more. But she finally quit Dance Moms and the Junior Elite Competition Team after she overheard Miller making fun of her eye condition.

“The reason I left Dance Moms was because my former dance teacher made fun of a medical condition I have,” Chloé explained in a YouTube video. “I heard everything she said and they didn’t show it on Dance Moms and it’s not really said a lot, but she made fun of me. As much respect as I have for her as a dance teacher and as a person and, of course, with everything she’s going through right now, what she said was horrible.”

The ALDC Junior Elite Competition Team was shocked when two of the original cast members returned

Because Chloé was treated so poorly by Miller, nobody expected her to ever return to the show. So, when she and Christi appeared after nationals, it was an emotional moment. It was especially emotional for Nia Sioux Frazier and Dr. Holly Hatcher-Frazier because they were the only original members of the Dance Moms cast left at that time.

But Dr. Holly and Nia weren’t the only ones who seemed to be happy to see Chloé and Christi. Though they weren’t original cast members, Jill Vertes, Kendall Vertes, Kira Girard, and Kalani Hilliker joined the team before Chloé and Christi exited the show, so they had history with the dancer and her mother. Of course, some members of the team had never met Chloé and Christi at all.

Ashlee Allen had an interesting reaction to Chloé and Christi rejoining the ‘Dance Moms’ cast

Because Ashlee Allen and Brynn Rumfallo didn’t join the Dance Moms cast until season 6, they never had any interaction with Chloé and Christi until their return. And eagle-eyed fans noticed that when the mother-daughter pair did return, Ashlee didn’t seem to know who Christi was, or at least she pretended not to. In a flashback video, at the 1:07 mark, while other members of the team are interacting with Christi, Ashlee can be seen mouthing “who’s that” to Holly before shrugging.

“Lol when Ashley mouthed ‘who’s that’ to Holly. Like girl 💀,” one Dance Moms fan commented on the video. “LIKE SHE DIDN’T KNOW. Hahaha,” another responded. Yet another fan quickly commented that they thought they were the only one who noticed Ashlee’s reaction. Who knows if Ashlee was feigning ignorance or not, but clearly fans of Dance Moms believe that there’s no way Ashlee didn’t know who Christi was.
