When Dance Moms premiered in July of 2011, nobody could have predicted that the show would become a phenomenon. Though the executives at Lifetime had an inkling that the show would be popular, even they underestimated the success of the show. The reality TV show made household names out of the original cast members and changed their lives in more ways than one.

Of course, the show wasn’t always the most positive environment, especially for the dancers. Nia Sioux, Chloé Lukasiak, Mackenzie Ziegler, Maddie Ziegler, Brooke Hyland, and Paige Hyland were under a lot of stress thanks to the show. Not only were they pitted against one another for competition, but filming Dance Moms was incredibly taxing. The girls had to balance school, homework, traveling, competition, and training each week. This left them with very little time to have a social life.

But through it all, the dancers had each other. Having danced at the same studio for years, the six girls had already developed strong bonds before the show even aired. And, after spending so much time together, many of them got even closer. However, as the seasons progressed and Dance Moms got more dramatic, some friendships experienced a lot of strain. In fact, there was a period of time when some of the original cast members weren’t in contact at all.

Fortunately, time seems to have repaired any riffs between the dancers. In fact, the six members of the original cast are closer than ever. In a recent interview with Variety, Maddie got candid about where she stands with her fellow Dance Moms castmates. The Fallout star revealed that it’s surreal how much she’s gone through with her friends over the past decade.

“We cannot believe it’s been 10 years,” Maddie said of the original Dance Moms cast. “We’ve grown up and gone through so much together and we’re all close, so it’s surreal to be around each other as young adults now. Having that as our childhood was crazy enough and the fact that it’s already been 10 years is insane.”

But how did the dancers manage to get close again? Over the years, all of the dancers shared that they would do anything for each other, regardless of how much time it had been since they’d spoken. But recently, they all reconnected via a Dance Moms group chat. In an interview with Crazy Stupid Fangirls, Lukasiak got candid about how technology helped bring the original cast together.

“We just started talking a lot again recently,” Lukasiak shared of the Dance Moms cast. “And then back in December, we had like our first — like everyone met up for the first time. It was crazy because everyone just happening to be in LA at the same time. And we were like ‘Should we all just like get together?’ And now we like talk a lot more. We have a group chat. So yeah. And uh, we might be going on a trip or something soon. We’re trying to figure it out because it’s been 10 years since the show.”
