Fans of Dancing with the Stars are shocked Tom Bergeron won’t be returning next season. They do have a theory on why he’s getting replaced and it has to do with his statement last season about Sean Spicer.

Tom Bergeron spoke against Sean Spicer being cast for ‘Dancing with the Stars’

Sean Spicer was the White House press secretary during Donald Trump’s presidency. Many criticized him for making false claims about the number of people who attended the president’s inauguration and he was later replaced.

Spicer was cast for season 28 of Dancing with the Stars, and that received a lot of backlash. Bergeron revealed that he wasn’t supportive of the choice either.

The host said he had a meeting where gave his opinions on what they should do for season 28. “Chief among them was my hope that DWTS, in its return following an unprecedented year-hiatus, would be a joyful respite from our exhausting political climate and free of inevitably decisive booking from ANY political affiliations,” read Bergeron’s statement.

He then added, “I left that lunch convinced we were in agreement. Subsequently (and rather obviously), a decision was made to, as we often say in Hollywood, ‘go in a different direction.'”

Lauren Alaina was partnered with Spicer for the season. He was the sixth person to eliminated.

Bergeron is getting replaced by Tyra Banks

The host announced on Twitter that he will no longer be hosting the show once it returns. “Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me. It’s been an incredible 15 year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I’m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?” Bergeron tweeted on July 13.

Tyra Banks will replace Bergeron and Erin Andrews. “I’ve been a fan of DWTS since its beginning … The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances … it’s always transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk,” Banks said in a news release, according to CNN.

A reason wasn’t given for the big casting change. However, fans are coming up with their theories for it.

They believe he was fired for his previous comments

Fans are trying to figure out the reason behind the change. Some of them believe his previous comments might have gotten him in trouble.

“It doesn’t seem like a coincidence that after he encouraged the producers to stop booking divisive politically affiliated contestants (like Sean Spicer.). Now he’s been let go,” one fan tweeted.

“I have a very strong feeling that, because Tom’s concern from before last season of not casting politicians was not taken seriously and then they did it anyway was a huge reason for his departure. They basically ‘handled the talent’ and gave him false assurances and did it anyway,” another fan tweeted.

“WTF! You made one bone-headed comment (Spicer) in 15 years and they’re letting you go? The whole show is almost unwatchable anyway, but now there’s no reason at all to watch. Thanks for a great 15 seasons. No [Maksim Chmerkovskiy,] No Tom, No Me,” added another fan.

The reason for the change of hosts wasn’t given. It looks like many fans aren’t happy about Bergeron being replaced.
