Spice Girl Mel C has received the wish she made aloud on the day she debuted as a cast member of Dancing With the Stars. During the season 30 premiere, Mel will perform a cha-cha to song from her singing group, The Spice Girls. She will compete against other celebrities in a quest for the show’s glittery mirrorball trophy.

Mel C is ‘unprepared’ for what lies ahead on ‘DWTS’

The singer claims she is “unprepared” for what lies ahead on Dancing With the Stars to Entertainment Tonight. She called her first rehearsal “wild” and was not ready for the intricacies that are involved in ballroom dancing.

“I have danced, you know, with the Spice Girls. We would do our little dance routines. I danced as a kid. I did ballet, and it’s like, can you just forget everything you’ve ever learned? It’s so, so different. And all the styles have such different techniques, so I like a challenge,” she revealed.

Mel’s appearance follows that of her fellow bandmate Mel B, who dominated the ballroom in season 5, but still came in second place alongside Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Upon getting the gig, the new DWTS competitor phoned Mel B and asked for her advice. She said, “Just enjoy it, lap it up.”

Mel C will dance a cha-cha to “Wannabe.” This year marks the 25th anniversary of the song, and Mel is hopeful that the music will find some renewed interest after being featured on the show.

“It’s our 25th anniversary this year of ‘Wannabe’ and the first album. So I’m hoping that I can bring some spice to ‘Dancing With the Stars,” she said.

Before beginning rehearsals for Dancing With the Stars, Mel explained that she would love to dance to a Spice Girls song, “any Spice Girls song.”

She seems to have had her wish granted. Mel will dance with her as-yet-unannounced pro partner to the chart-topping 1996 hit.

She is hopeful the Spice Girls will reunite on ‘DWTS’

The Spice Girls last performed on Dancing With the Stars back in 2007.

Mel is hopeful she can get her bandmates to reunite one more time to honor her commitment to the show.

“I hope so. I think that could really … should we manifest that that is going to happen?” Mel admitted to Entertainment Tonight.

“They’re all super excited for me, and they’re kinda, like, ‘You’ve gotta win!'” she says. “That’s a bit of pressure, so I was like, ‘I’ll do my best.'”

Mel C said she will “do her best” as a competitor and is hopeful that viewers don’t believe that her “Sporty Spice” nickname gives her an edge over other celebrities on the show.

“‘Cause I’m the sporty one, they always think, ‘Yeah, she’s going to get gold. But you know, there’s more sporty people in this show than me, like, super sporty who have won gold,” Mel said of her fellow competitors, including an Olympian, a Peleton instructor, and a professional athlete.

“But I’m gonna give it my best shot,” she says.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
