Tyra Banks took over hosting on Dancing with the Stars in season 29, replacing fan-favorites Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews. Despite many disgruntled fans, Banks returned to host season 30 of Dancing with the Stars, which featured a history-making win by Iman Shumpert. But next season, Banks may not return as host. ‘Dancing with the Stars’ ratings plummet in season 30

Dancing with the Stars used to air twice a year until the controversial season 27. Bobby Bones took the win over fan favorites like R&B singer Tinashe and Fuller House star Juan Pablo Di Pace. Since then, the show has been limited to one season a year — a trend that will continue in 2022, thanks to the show’s low ratings in season 30.

On average, 4.89 million viewers tuned in to Dancing with the Stars Season 30. That’s significantly less than the 6.19 million viewers who watched season 29, and even less than the average 6.73 million viewers the show attracted in season 28 (via TV Series Finale). As a result, ABC is considering replacing Banks as host.

Tyra Banks could be replaced by a star who ‘will make headlines on and off-screen’

According to The Sun, ABC has plans to meet with Dancing with the Stars executives to “map out 2022.” A source close to the show told the outlet they’re looking to sign “at least one major star” to host the show next season.

They also claim senior executives within the BBC Studios in Los Angeles are looking for “at least one or ideally two major household names that fascinate fans.” Per the source, Dancing with the Stars executives are “think[ing] big” and in search of “an Oscar, Emmy or Grammy-winning star who will make headlines on and off-screen.”
