Prior to retiring from motorsports in 2018, Danica Patrick was one of the most famous names in racing. She made headlines for her personal life off the track as well during her very public relationship and breakup with Aaron Rodgers. But years before dating the NFL star and while she was still competing as a race car driver, she gushed about another career she would have loved to have had. Here’s more on that and why Patrick can look back and say she technically did do it.

What Patrick said about ‘how fun’ it would be to have this career

One of the most iconic magazine issues in the world is the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. It was always said to be an honor to pose for the publication and Patrick was asked to do so not once, but twice in 2008 and 2009.

Following her photo shoot, Patrick admitted she would’ve loved to be a swimsuit model and talked about how much she enjoyed her experience.

“I had so much fun. It was a great experience,” the former NASCAR driver told Sports Illustrated NOW. “I loved it, completely. Like, I wish I was a swimsuit model because it was really fun. I like doing photo shoots, and I enjoy the artistic side of it. SI has always been so good to me, and I was so honored to be asked back for a second time.”

She did technically appear on the cover

For the 2009 issue, Patrick was technically on the cover in a bathing suit just like many swimsuit models had been. While the official cover girl that year was Israeli model Bar Refaeli who showed off a stunning swimsuit on Canouan Island in the Grenadines, Patrick was also pictured at the top right-hand side of the cover in a tiny black bikini and heels.

“You could actually say I was on the cover,” Patrick said looking back. “I had a little image in the top right corner of the cover.”

She’s tapped into other business ventures since she retired from racing

Patrick retired from her professional racing career at the age of 36 but she didn’t slow down. She kept busy with plenty of other business ventures including focusing on health and wellness initiatives as well as her role as a business owner. She has an athleisure clothing line called Warrior by Danica Patrick and is the sole proprietor of her own brand of wine Somnium, which means “dream” in Latin. In addition to that, Patrick launched her podcast Pretty Intense in 2019.
