The Los Angeles Police Department has announced that Daniel Silva, a former contestant on Ink Masters, has been booked on suspicion of murder. The charges stem from a May 10 car crash that took the life of YouTube star, Corey La Barrie, on his 25th birthday. While details of the crash remain fuzzy, witnesses have reported that Silva attempted to flee the scene of the accident, and was restrained by bystanders until police arrived.

It was not immediately clear where La Barrie and Silva were headed when the deadly crash occurred, but witnesses confirmed the pair had been at a birthday bash for La Barrie before they took off for a drive. La Barrie turned 25 on May 10.

The Australia-born YouTuber took to the content sharing platform the day before the deadly crash to ask followers to help him celebrate his birthday by joining him on Twitch. He went live at 1 pm pacific time on May 10. The accident occurred at 9:40 pm that same evening. La Barrie was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Silva was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; he was arrested upon his release.

The LAPD has confirmed that Silva was driving the vehicle when It crashed into a tree. He has been transferred from a Los Angeles hospital to a jail in Van Nuys, Calfornia, where he was booked on suspicion of murder. Silva’s bail has been set at $200,000.

It was not immediately clear how Silva and La Barrie knew each other, although they appeared to run in the same social circles. The LAPD also did not release information about who owned the vehicle that was involved in the crash. The car was identified as a 2020 McLaren 600LT. The sports car retails for more than $250,000 and can reach speeds over 200 miles per hour.

Witnesses report that Silva attempted to flee the scene of the accident

Shortly after the accident, Silva was transported to the hospital, but reports are surfacing that he initially tried to flee the scene of the crime. ABC News reported that bystanders were present when the crash occurred. They told police that after the vehicle crashed into a tree, Silva got out of the car and attempted to flee. Witnesses were able to subdue Silva until the police arrived.

La Barrie’s mother, Lissa Harrison, took to Instagram to share the news of her son’s death. She noted that the driver of the vehicle, who she did not name, had been drunk. The LAPD did not mention whether or not alcohol played a role in the crash, although initial reports indicate that Silva was drunk when he got behind the wheel.  The police did note that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash. Further details about the accident are expected in the coming days.
