Philadelphia 76ers guard Danny Green attended the University of North Carolina where he played in more games and had more wins than anyone who put on a Tar Heels uniform before him. The athlete began his professional career in 2009 and today is a three-time NBA champion having won as a member of the San Antonio Spurs, the Toronto Raptors, and the Los Angeles Lakers before joining the Sixers.

In 2020, Green proposed to his longtime partner Blair Bashen with a ring he said took him a long time to afford. Here’s more on the basketball player‘s wife and why you may know who her mother is.

Bashen is the daughter of a high-profile woman

Bashen was born on Feb. 7, 1989, to George Steven Bashen and the famous inventor and entrepreneur Janet Bashen. Her mother was named one of the Top 100 influential African-Americans by Ebony. Bashen has one sibling, a brother named Drew Alec Bashen.

Like Green, Bashen is an athlete as well. She played volleyball at Purdue University where she graduated with a degree in Organisational Leadership and Supervision. Her LinkedIn profile notes that she is the Organizational Development Consultant and accountant at the Bashen Corporation.

Why Green and Bashen received death threats

Green and Bashen began dating in 2015 and she’s been by the NBA player’s side through good and bad times including when Green missed a shot during the finals seconds of a Lakers playoff game in 2020. That miss garnered bashing on social media and even death threats against the couple.

“It’s a basketball game at the end of the day. I know that they’re just taking out their emotions and they need somebody to blame … Of course, I’m the easy target,” Green said at the time.

The Lakers, however, went on to win it all that year.

Also in 2020, Green got down on one knee and asked Bashen to marry him.

“Sorry it took so long babe! Just wanted to be able to get you the ring you deserved and couldn’t afford it until now,” he wrote on Instagram with a laughing emoji, adding, “Love you with all my heart and I’m so lucky to have had you by my side these past 5 years … many more years to come! Here’s to forever!”

Bashen said “yes” and the two wed on August 14, 2021, inside The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston.

Green and Bashen graced the cover of the Inside Weddings magazine Winter 2022 issue. When asked about covering the mag Bashen gushed: “I’m elated to be on the cover and have our wedding featured in Inside Weddings. It was a truly magical moment in our lives. I hope that the readers enjoy getting a glimpse into our special day and maybe even inspire some future wedding ideas for other couples.”
