In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Dave Bautista entered the limelight with his performance in Guardians of the Galaxy. The role was a significant break for the former pro wrestler. The success of his performance allowed him to appear in other notable works.

Marvel has been a major chapter in Bautista’s career, and it seems that it will end soon. In an interview, he mentioned the future of his journey in the MCU. As some people suspected, his time as Drax is almost up.

Dave Bautista reflects on his role as Drax

Bautista portrayed Drax the Destroyer in the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films. He also returned as the character in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Drax meets Peter Quill and the others while in prison, and he helps break the group out.

When viewers first see Drax, the character seeks revenge against Ronan. Ronan is responsible for the death of his family. After the antagonist’s defeat, Drax would remain with Quill and the others as their crewmate and friend, pursuing Thanos. He often provides comic relief as well.

Drax instantly became a fan favorite, but Bautista has expressed that he is a little embarrassed watching himself. The character is a big person who occasionally is absurd. Bautista does not feel like that is who he is as a person.

Not to mention, Bautista finds himself more soft-spoken and subtle than his character. He might not think his performance of Drax is all that funny. Still, the actor enjoys filming the MCU movies. Bautista and fans can look forward to seeing him in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Bautista admits that Drax’s journey is almost over

People have speculated about what will happen in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. One of the guesses is that Drax might die, and fans expect that it could be a tragic sacrifice. Bautista spoke out in response to some of the rumors about his role.

According to ComicBook.com, Bautista mentioned how he and the crew are “going to wrap it up” in the sequel. While the actor does not explicitly say it, people felt his statement confirmed their suspicions. Fans believe that his time as Drax is almost up.

“It’s a bittersweet…I mean, I’ve been doing Guardians since 2013. And, you know, when this comes out, you know, it’ll be in 2023, so that’s a, you know, 10-year journey,” Bautista stated. He likely will miss the cast, who he considers a family, but he is ready to leave.

Bautista can move on to other roles that he is passionate about. Fans can hope that the star makes a cameo as Drax in the future.
