Kristen Bell has become a TV darling in recent years. Her show, The Good Placeis the comedy fans didn’t even know they needed. It’s funny and fresh, with a completely original premise. The characters, played by greats like Bell, Jameela Jamil, and Ted Dansen, absolutely steal viewers’ hearts.

This isn’t Bell’s breakout role. She’s been well known to fans for a while. Everyone’s favorite thing about Bell is her relationship with Dax Shepard, a Hollywood triple threat: He’s an actor, writer, and director who has a serious funny streak.

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are #relationshipgoals

Bell and Shepard are both so funny, so they seem like the perfect match. The funny thing is, their relationship almost never happened. Bell was engaged to Kevin Mann in 2007 before she started going out with Shepard.

Mann and Bell didn’t work out. She started dating Shepard later that year. If she had married Mann, Shepard and Bell would probably have never gotten together.

They were engaged three years later, in 2010. They got married three years later, in 2013. They spent six years dating and being engaged, and it seems to have paid off. Neither rushed into this relationship, and it shows. They’re still going strong today, and now they’ve added two little girls to the mix.

Shepard and Bell have two daughters. First came Lincoln, 6, and then Delta, 5.

Dax Shepard once accidentally sexted Kristen Bell’s mom

Shepard and Bell are both comedy actors. So naturally, funny things end up happening to them. Recently, Bell told Ellen DeGeneres about one such antic. Apparently, Shepard accidentally sexted his mother in law, Lorelei Bell.

Lorelei was coming for a visit and texted Shepard to let him know what time she would be arriving. According to Bell, her mom’s text was totally innocent.

Bell recounted: “She was coming in town and sends a text like, ‘Be there by 11.’ And then sends something else that says, ‘Can’t wait to see you tonight.'”

That last line could have been read in a number of ways, but Lorelei didn’t mean anything by it. Shepard knew that and tried to reply with something equally innocent.

Bell said: “He meant to respond ‘smiley face, smiley face, smiley face.’ And instead, he responds, ‘eggplant, eggplant, eggplant.’ When he did it, he went, ‘Huh! Oh no! I made a huge mistake.’ And I was like, ‘What?'”

Yes, Shepard texted his mother in law the incredibly sexual eggplant emoji. He and his wife panicked, but luckily Lorelei didn’t know what the eggplant meant. Bell was able to see the humor in it, and their relationship lived to see another day.

Work makes Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard’s relationship work

Everyone wants to have what Bell and Shepard have together. They get asked all the time to share their secret for a great relationship. Shepard did just that in an interview with Us Weekly a few years ago.

Unfortunately, there’s no secret recipe for a great relationship. What Shepard and Bell have isn’t magic. It’s something they’ve earned through hard work.

Shepard and Bell are constantly working on their relationship. They even see a professional to help them work on their communication skills.

According to Shepard, anyone can have what he and his wife have. He said: “My only fear is that people see us and think, ‘Oh, I just need to find my Kristen Bell.’ That’s not true. You’ll find your Kristen Bell but guess what, now the work starts. [Relationships] are labor intensive. If you want them to last, they are labor intensive.”

Considering how happy Shepard and Bell seem together, that hard work must be worth it. They’ve become one of entertainment’s favorite couples, and hopefully they stay that way.
