Alison Sweeney has been playing Sami Brady on Days of Our Lives since 1993. In 2014, however, the legendary soap opera star became a recurring cast member. In 2021, though, she became a series regular. This led many soap opera fans to believe that she’d be returning to the popular daytime drama on a full-time basis. But will she ever return to Salem full-time? In a recent interview, she shed light on it all.
Alison Sweeney said she won’t return to ‘Days of Our Lives’ on a full-time basis
In an exclusive interview with People, Alison Sweeney talked about whether she’d ever return to Days of Our Lives on a full-time basis. And, unfortunately for the show’s fans, she said she wouldn’t be returning to the show full-time.
“I love playing Sami but no, full-time is not the plan for me,” she said to the outlet. “The opportunity to go back to Days, it feels like going home again, to be honest with you. It’s like visiting my family during the holidays. I get to see everyone. I get to play Sami. I get to go home.”
So why isn’t full-time work on the show in the proverbial cards for her?
She prefers to be behind the scenes now
While Alison Sweeney said she loves being on Days of Our Lives, most of her work is concentrated behind the scenes now. She told the outlet that she’s dedicated to working on things like Hallmark movies. She can still be seen in the Christmas movie, Open by Christmas, on the network. And, next month, she’ll star in the next installment of Wedding Veil.
“I’m working on the third movie [Wedding Veil] now, where my character’s sort of the featured love story,” she said to the outlet. “It’s so fun. I can’t tell you what a joy it’s been to work with Autumn [Reaser], and Lacey [Chabert], and to develop this story and these characters. It’s amazing to support other strong women and to tell these really beautiful stories. I just have really enjoyed it.”
Sweeney recently starred in ‘A Very Salem Christmas’
Days of Our Lives fans have recently enjoyed seeing Alison Sweeney in the first-ever Days Christmas movie, A Very Salem Christmas. The film, which can be seen on the Peacock streaming app, features the actor alongside other Salem faves. Sweeney said she enjoyed acting in the film and loved what the head Days writer Ron Carlivati did with her character.
“Just when you think she’s going to zig, she zags,” she said. “She definitely has an unusual way of looking at life. So for this Christmas special he really came at me with a different, fresh perspective. And it was just such a fun twist on the character, and on the situation, on her, and what the fans want to see. So I really loved this idea from the get-go.”
