The ‘DC’s Stargirl’ season 2 trailer introduces Green Lantern’s daughter

It looks like the JSA will be dealing with new allies and villains in season 2 of DC’s Stargirl. A trailer for the upcoming season picks up with Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger), aka Stargirl, trying to convince her family and fellow JSA superheroes that the battle against the Injustice Society of America isn’t over.

With Cindy Burman (Meg DeLacy) still on the loose, and the rise of villains like Eclipso (Nick Tarabay) and The Shade (Jonathan Cake), it seems like Courtney may be right. But the trailer also features a scene in which she faces a new potential ally.

“Who are you?” Courtney asks the young woman, who sports a glowing green ring and lantern.

“I’m Green Lantern’s daughter,” the mysterious superhero responds.

Does the Green Lantern have a daughter in DC Comics?

DC’s Stargirl will feature Ysa Penarejo as Jade, the daughter of Green Lantern Alan Scott. But the character is not new to the DC Comic universe.

Jade, also known as Jennifer-Lynn Hayden, is a metahuman that first appeared in All-Star Squadron #25 in 1983. She is the daughter of Green Lantern, Alan Scott, and Thorn, aka Rose Canton.

Jade’s twin brother, Todd Rice, is the superhero Obsidian. Together, the two siblings create the superhero team of Infinity Inc.

Like her dad, Jade has Starheart energy powers, but they come from a birthmark on her palm rather than from the lantern or ring. She can bring green energy creations to life and manipulate them at her will.

From her mother, Jade inherited the ability to control plants. She can make plants grow and move in any way she likes. With the ring and the lantern, Jade can also fly and travel through space.

The ‘DC’s Stargirl’ creator has plans to bring more DC superheroes on board

Ever since season 1, DC’s Stargirl has been teasing the existence of other popular DC superheroes, including the Green Lantern. When Courtney first visits JSA headquarters, she sees a poster of Alan Scott. And when she sneaks JSA memorabilia back home, one of the artifacts looks a lot like the Green Lantern’s power battery.

According to Geoff Johns, the creator of Stargirl, the Easter eggs featured throughout the series were put there for a reason. “People want to say, ‘Oh look, an Easter egg of the pink pen or the green lantern,’ but those aren’t Easter eggs,” he told Comicbook.com in June 2020. “Those are pathways to new stories.”

Season 2 of DC’s Stargirl premieres on August 10 on The CW.
