Demon Slayer isn’t an anime that shies away from tragedy, and season 2 isn’t pulling its punches. Recent episodes of the Entertainment District Arc have pushed Tanjiro and his friends to their limits — and episode 9 leaves them in mortal danger. In particular, Inosuke Hashibira is in a worrisome state. But does Inosuke die in the Demon Slayer manga?

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Demon Slayer’s Entertainment District Arc and manga.]

Inosuke gets a serious wound in Entertainment District Arc Episode 9

Episode 9 of Demon Slayer‘s Entertainment District Arc continues the battle between the main characters and Upper Moon 6 demons, with Inosuke getting a moment to shine. Although Tengen and Tanjiro struggle to gain the upper hand over Gyutaro, Zenitsu and Inosuke make headway against Daki. When Tanjiro joins them, Inosuke manages to get close — close enough to cut her head off with his Beast Breathing.

Unfortunately, his big moment doesn’t last long. As he makes away with Daki’s head, her brother catches up to him. “Defeating an Upper Rank Demon” concludes with Inosuke getting a blood sickle through the chest. And the image may leave anime-only fans wondering if Inosuke will survive this season.

Those wondering whether Inosuke survives Demon Slayer‘s Entertainment District Arc can look to Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga for answers. They can also breathe a bit easier. Although Inosuke’s wound is close to his heart — and made with a poisoned blade — it doesn’t actually kill him.

According to Fandom.com, there are two reasons Inosuke survives his encounter with Gyutaro. Both may require some suspension of belief from viewers. First, the Demon Slayer boasts extreme flexibility. He’s even able to move his organs at will, allowing him to keep his heart away from Gyutaro’s sickle.

Additionally, Inosuke is essentially immune to poison. He can handle large quantities of it without being impacted, and the same goes for medicine and other substances. Although the manga chalks this quality up to his training, it doesn’t give a thorough explanation as to why. This could be Inosuke’s willpower at work, or it could be that his abilities extend beyond those of ordinary humans. Either way, it’s a handy characteristic that saves Inosuke’s life.

Of course, Inosuke’s survival during the Entertainment District Arc doesn’t guarantee him a long life afterward. And it’s safe to assume Tanjiro and his friends will fight more powerful demons than Gyutaro and Daki as their training continues. So, does Inosuke survive the whole Demon Slayer manga?

The fan-favorite character does make it through the final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, seemingly living out the remainder of his days in peace. He dies eventually, as all the characters do. And they’re later shown reincarnated and living in present-day Japan.

So, those dreading a tragic death for Inosuke can put their minds at ease. Tanjiro’s stubborn friend is sticking around — and thank goodness for that!
