The anime Demon Slayer Season 2 presents Tanjiro Kamado with a new foe when its Entertainment District Arc kicks off. And Upper Moon 6 Daki initially seems like a worrisome threat all on her own. However, the Jan. 16 episode drops a huge reveal about the character — and it explains how Demon Slayer‘s protagonist survived his fight with her.

‘Demon Slayer’ Season 2 just revealed there’s more to Upper Moon 6

Daki claims the title of Upper Moon 6 throughout Demon Slayer‘s Entertainment District Arc, so it’s something of a surprise when Tanjiro manages to hold his own against her. However, the Jan. 16 episode proves there’s more behind Upper Rank 6 than fans expected.

When Tengen Uzui arrives on the scene, he initially makes quick work of Daki. Even he’s shocked at her “weakness.” But she doesn’t disintegrate when he cuts off her head — and another form soon emerges from her body: her brother, Gyotaru.

It seems Gyotaru and Daki operate as one, and they’re both considered Upper Moon 6. Just a few minutes of back and forth proves that Gyotaru is the stronger half of this enemy. And that probably explains why Tanjiro is still standing.

Demons in the Twelve Kizuki — especially those on the more powerful end of it — are supposedly able to kill Hashira, the highest-ranked members of the Demon Slayer Corps. A Demon Slayer with Tanjiro’s level of training would normally falter in a fight with one.

However, the anime’s lead manages to surprise Daki, especially when he uses his new Sun Breathing technique. The only reason he eventually passes out is that he’s worn himself down in battle.

It’s no surprise that Nezuko can match Daki’s power, but Tanjiro’s abilities seem exaggerated without further context. Of course, now that we know the Upper Moon 6 wasn’t at full strength when she fought the younger Demon Slayer, their encounter makes more sense. Tanjiro is far less likely to take on Gyutaro singlehandedly and live to tell the tale.

That begs the question: can Tanjiro and his companions actually defeat Daki and her brother?

With Gyutaro showcasing a powerful Blood Demon Art — and Daki backing him up — will Tanjiro and the other Demon Slayers be able to defeat season 2’s new enemy?

Tengen seems eager for the challenge, but he wouldn’t be the first Hashira to perish at the hands of the Twelve Kizuki. In fact, the anime’s Mugen Train Arc saw Rengoku losing a similar fight with one of Muzan’s henchmen.

Tanjiro himself seems like he’s in no shape to provide backup. Thankfully, Inosuke and Zenitsu are both on hand. But given their lower rankings in the Demon Slayer Corps, the odds don’t seem in their favor. Fans will be waiting with bated breath to see how things play out between the group and the Upper Moon 6 demons.
