Andy and Nate in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’

The Devil Wears Prada is an adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 book of the same name. Like the book, the film depicts the fashion industry told through Andy’s eyes. After graduating from Northwestern University, the ambitious journalist moves to New York City with Nate, a chef. However, she soon realizes that finding a job as a reporter won’t come right away. So, she accepts a job as famed editor Miranda Priestly’s (Meryl Streep) assistant.

Soon after Andy lands her gig at Runway, she immerses herself in the fashion world. Eventually, her newfound love for glitz and glamour threatens her relationship with Nate. Following Andy’s trip to Paris, the couple decides to part ways. However, they kept the relationship open in their final scene together.

Why Andy and Nate ‘are not together’ 15 years after ‘The Devil Wears Prada’

In June 2021, The Devil Wears Prada’s cast and crew sat down for a reunion with Entertainment Weekly. During the chat, McKenna and the movie’s director David Frankel shared their thoughts on a sequel. Although they said the studio never reached out to them about another movie, the 2006 film McKenna thinks the film had its “moment” already.

While The Devil Wears Prada fans won’t get a sequel anytime soon, McKenna shed light on where she believes Andy and Nate are in 2021. During a separate interview with EW, she claims Andy is a podcast host and “had a pink pussycat hat in 2016.” She also says Nate is still a chef and “working in various restaurants and kitchens.” However, McKenna says that Andy and Nate “are not together” 15 years later.

“I don’t think they’ve seen each other in 10 years,” she declares. “They’ll see each other at some college reunion. And I think he’s dating a really cool chef who has a pierced nose and cool clothes that she bought at a thrift store. Andy is moving in a different world of Twitter, blogs, online news, and [still] scrambling.”

Who is the villain in ‘Devil Wears Prada’?

Since The Devil Wears Prada came out, many of its fans have discussed the film online. In Nov. 2018, The Repeller released a story about Andy and Nate’s relationship. Despite popular belief, the article suggests that Nate, not Miranda, is the film’s “real villain.” Some fans also agreed with the post on social media, arguing that Nate could’ve been more supportive of Andy’s career.

Grenier says he agrees Nate is the film’s villain during The Devil Wears Prada’s oral history with EW. Although he was admittedly offended by the accusation, the Entourage star said his maturity made him see Nate from a different perspective.

“I was just as immature as him at the time, so I couldn’t see his shortcomings, but, after taking time to reflect and much deliberation online, I can realize the truth in that perspective,” Grenier says. “Nate hadn’t grown up, but Andy had…. she needed more out of life, and she was achieving it.”
