The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic did not stop Kendall Jenner from throwing a Halloween party at Harriet’s Rooftop in Los Angeles. Kendall Jenner drew immediate backlash for the party, and celebrity guests were also criticized for attending the event.

Kendall Jenner’s party violated LA’s guidelines

Kendall Jenner turned 25 years old on Nov. 3, and her party on Halloween acted as both a Halloween party and an early birthday party. Celebrity guests included Justin Bieber, Jaden Smith, Saweetie, Doja Cat, The Weeknd, Winnie Harlow, and Kylie Jenner.

Kendall Jenner apparently asked guests not to post photos of the party on social media with a message reading, “No social media. Take all of the photos you want, but please do not post on social media of any kind.” Still, guests including Kylie Jenner posted multiple photos and videos on social media.

Currently, LA is under an order by Mayor Eric Garcetti that encourages “residents to stay safer at home as much as possible, to avoid gathering with others outside their households in both indoor and outdoor settings, and to telework as often as they can.”

This is considered the second phase in LA’s reopening plan. Under this phase, bars, lounges, clubs, concert venues, and movie theaters are closed, and restaurants are closed to indoor dining. Still, Kendall Jenner had her party at Harriet’s Rooftop despite the fact cocktail bars and lounges like it are not supposed to be open.

Fans criticized Kendall Jenner for the party

Kendall Jenner’s party follows Kim Kardashian West being criticized for flying out friends and family to a private island for her 40th birthday. To social media users, the pandemic has made the Kardashians and Jenners appear increasingly tone-deaf.

“The whole family is so out of touch with reality… Don’t get me started on Kendall blowing out candles while a masked waiter uncomfortably stands there. By having a huge party, and taking no precautions, puts the employees at risk as well…,” a Reddit user criticized.

Another Reddit user wrote, “It really bothered me how Khloe defended the island party by saying, the people working were so grateful for the money we spent! Like yeah, thanks for reminding us that a lot people don’t have the enormous cushion you do to opt out of non-essential work. Glad you don’t mind risking their lives so you can have a party…”

Kris Jenner defended Kendall Jenner

While social media users condemned Kendall Jenner, her mother Kris Jenner called in to SiriusXM’s “Andy Cohen Live” to defend her daughter. She did not acknowledge that the party appears to have violated LA’s guidelines about the coronavirus.

She claimed that everyone attending the party was tested for the coronavirus, saying:

“At Kendall’s [party], everyone got tested before they walked in the door and they had to wait, you know, a half an hour until the testing was, the results were in… And everybody was tested before a few days before the, you know, Halloween. So we are really responsible and we make sure that everyone in our family and our closest friends are tested religiously. So, you know, we do what we can, we, we try to follow the rules. And then if people are, you know, they’re commenting and they’re being critical, I can’t control that.”

Despite Kris Jenner’s defense, it does not seem like criticism for the party has slowed down.
