Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles fell in love long before they wed back in 2005. Of course, things worked out for the couple later in life, but they were both married and had kids with other people. Do Charles and Camilla wish they had had children of their own?

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles were in love for years

When Charles and Camilla first met in the 1970s, it was love at first sight. Charles instantly fell for her, but rumor has it the queen didn’t deem Camilla worthy of being Charles’ wife. Once Charles went away to serve in the British Navy, Camilla married Andrew Parker Bowles, leaving Charles without a wife while approaching his 30th birthday.

The royal family felt that Princess Diana would make a great wife to Charles, and though neither person was in love, they went through with a wedding. After the two realized they weren’t right for each other, Charles went back to Camilla, which resulted in his divorce from Diana in 1996. In 2005, Charles and Camilla wed.

Charles didn’t seem thrilled about having kids with Diana

The royal family deemed it important for Charles to have kids because he was the heir to the throne. With that, he wanted his own children to someday take over after him. However, there were rumors that he wasn’t thrilled about having kids with Diana. When the two welcomed their second child, Prince Harry, Charles was reportedly disappointed that Harry was not a girl.

Charles also reportedly told Diana that his “work was done” after she gave birth to their second child, according to Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell. Since Diana had birthed “an heir and a spare,” Charles didn’t feel he needed to do more to grow their family.

The two haven’t commented on having children of their own

If Charles did hold some animosity toward having children with Diana, it’s unclear if that was because of the relationship or because he didn’t want kids in general. Charles and Camilla have not made any public comments about wanting children, but we can assume that since Charles needed an heir to the throne, the two certainly would have had kids if they’d married at a younger age.

Camilla has children of her own as well; she shares her daughter and son, Laura and Tom, with her ex, Andrew Parker Bowles.

There were rumors the couple shared a love child

Though Charles and Camilla do not have any kids, and we may never know if they wish they did, there were rumors at one point that the two had a love child. According to reports, a man named Simon Dorante-Day once suggested he was the child of Charles and Camilla; he was adopted at 18 months and claims his parents have told him that he is the son of the future king.

Still, most people do not believe the rumors because the timelines don’t add up. Dorante-Day was born in 1966, though Charles and Camilla didn’t meet until the following decade.
