Does Beyoncé Really Own a Church in New Orleans?
You can call Beyoncé a lot of things. She’s a singer, dancer, actor, businesswoman, mother, and church owner. Wait, what?
Yes, you read that right. The Queen Bey has her very own place of worship located in The Big Easy. Though she has yet to hold a “Beyoncé Mass” there, we can’t even begin to imagine what the turnout would be when/if she does.
What religion is Beyoncé?
Beyoncé considers herself to be more spiritual than religious.
Though she was raised as a Christian and attended St. John’s Methodist Church in Houston, Texas as a child, the singer has come into her own over the years and has realized that she can be spiritual while still believing in organized practices.
“I never mixed Christianity with how I felt [about God]. I am about faith and spirituality more so than religion. Doing right by others and not judging,” she previously told Christian newspaper, The Son. “The thing that keeps me grounded is knowing that I’m always protected and that God is in control of things. Even the name of our group, Destiny’s Child, we got out of the Bible. For me it is about the way I carry myself and the way I treat other people.”
Though that was one of the only times Bey has spoken openly about her faith, some of her songs have been interpreted to have religious undertones and spiritual enlightenment messages.
Beyoncé bought a church in New Orleans
Beyoncé’s music is the gospel for many people, so it was only right that she bought a church big enough for a Beyhive congregation.
In 2018, TMZ reported that the singer bought a 7,500 square foot stone church in New Orleans. The church was built in the early 1900s and had not operated as a place of worship in the years leading up to Bey’s purchase.
According to the outlet, the property was listed for $850,000, which is what she reportedly paid to procure it. To make the purchase even more worthwhile, the church is also located near Solange’s New Orleans residence.
What other properties does Beyoncé own?
While the 7,500 square foot stone church is the only building of worship Beyoncé owns, it’s not the only piece of property that has her name written all over it.
In addition to the church, the “Halo” singer also owns several multi-million dollar mansions with her husband, Jay-Z. In 2017, the couple bought an $88 million mansion in Bel Air, which, in reality, is more of a compound.
This massive home has six structures, totaling over 30,000 square feet of living space and includes a spa, a wellness facility, a few pools, and a media room.
The A-listers also own a mansion in the Hamptons, which they bought for $26 million the same year they dropped a real estate deal on their LA property.
Though the home is much smaller than Bey and Jay’s west coast compound, it has a ton of history as it was built more than 100 years ago, but is newly renovated.
While buying old properties might not be of interest to some people, it seems like Beyoncé doesn’t have a problem keeping antique buildings standing tall.
