Parton, 76, started her career at a young age and used her wit, grit, and talent to become one of the world’s most celebrated performers. While she’s been the subject of plenty of biographical profiles, none are more fun than her colorful new comic book.

In 2021, TidalWave published a biographical comic book about Parton’s life as part of their Female Force series. Titled Female Force: Dolly Parton, the comic highlights her contributions to music and her impact on the world.

The Dolly Parton comic was written by Michael Frizell

Female Force: Dolly Parton comes from artist Ramon Salas and writer Michael Frizell, an author and educational administrator at Missouri State University. When talking to Comic Book and Movie Reviews, Frizell revealed he started writing biographical comics after TidalWave founder Darren G. Davis reached out to him on social media.

“This eventually led to a lengthy phone call and a proposition I couldn’t refuse,” Frizell recalled. “Well, I always wanted to write comic books, but I never considered writing comic book biographies. So, after some much-needed deliberation, he sent me two topics that were rather well-received, circa 2014, and that’s how our partnership began.”

And when it came to writing about Parton’s life, Frizell acknowledged how much he enjoyed it. “Writing about Dolly was a joy,” he said in a statement via TidalWave. “I’m thrilled with the expressive way the artist visualized the pages. The book feels timeless. Her creativity, philanthropy, and humanity are legendary.”

Frizell has written about several celebrities for TidalWave’s Female Force series, including Tina Turner, Selena, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Where can fans find the Dolly Parton comic book?
