Dolly Parton has been a pop culture icon for decades, and her influence only continues to grow. She’s known for her bold fashion choices and over-the-top personality, and has even recently made headlines for her help in developing a COVID-19 vaccine.

Dolly Parton loves to doll herself up

Dolly Parton has become synonymous with big blonde hair and an even bigger chest. Getting glammed up is all a part of Parton’s daily routine, even when she’s not planning on working at all.

In December 2020, Parton spoke with another connoisseur of big wigs and high heels — Drag Race host RuPaul — in an interview for Marie Claire. “I have to always stay ready — street ready, I always say,” Parton said. “I have to keep my makeup on and keep my hair done.”

Always staying in full glam is Parton’s way of preparing for the worst — and ensuring that when the worst comes, she still looks great. “If it’s going to earthquake, if we get an earthquake, I’m not running out in the street looking like you look now,” she told RuPaul out of drag. “I have to be ambulance-ready at all times, if I get sick or something.”

Dolly Parton wears high heels every day

Part of Parton’s routine for getting “street ready” is never taking her high heels off. She needs them to complete her looks, but admitted she also needs them to reach high-up things in her house.

“I actually do wear high heels most of the time,” Parton said. “They’re not always as high as the ones I wear for show. But I’m little. I’m short. And I have to wear heels in order to reach my cabinets. But I always enjoy wearing the shoes too, and I just feel more like me.” Parton added that it has nothing to do with self-confidence, as she loves herself even when she’s not wearing heels.

Parton went on to discuss with RuPaul what she cooked for breakfast that morning for her and her husband. “When you were cooking, were you wearing your high heels?” the Drag Race host asked.

“I always wear my high heels. Don’t you?” the “Head Over High Heels” singer shot back. RuPaul went on to explain the differences between what they do, and that he takes all of his regalia off at the end of the day, to which Parton replied simply, “Well, I don’t.”

Dolly Parton is much shorter without heels

Parton definitely needs her high heels to do practical things around the house every day, in addition to stepping up her looks (no pun intended). Parton stands at just 5 feet tall.

Parton once commented on her height in an interview with Larry King. “I’m only like 5’1″, 5’2″ if I’m standing up straight on a good day,” she quipped. “But I wear my five-inch heels, and I’m a tiny little person with tiny little bones and these big old boobs hanging on there.”
