Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton starred in two related 30-second Super Bowl commercials this year. Pairing the stars together isn’t too surprising, considering that Parton is Cyrus’ godmother, and they have worked together several times in the past. Cyrus showed up in the last few seconds of Parton’s Super Bowl ad, while Parton appeared in the first few seconds of Cyrus’ commercial.

Both Cyrus’ and Parton’s commercials were for T-Mobile. In her ad, Parton said, “America’s got a serious problem, so I’m gonna get it off my chest,” before whipping a cell phone out of her top. When she answers the call, it’s Cyrus on the other end of the line. “You’ve got a voice, Miley, use it,” the country music star urged her goddaughter. Cyrus’ ad starts with her contemplating Parton’s words before breaking into song.

Parton told Variety that she loved the concept of the Super Bowl ad. “I always carry my phone in my bosom,” she said. “My boobs are ringing when the phone rings.”

Dolly Parton said she got the call to do the ad about 6 weeks before the big game

The country music icon also told Variety that she had a limited time to work on the T-Mobile commercial. She revealed that the cellular service company reached out to her just six weeks before the big game with a “basic idea” of having her and Cyrus star in their ads.

“It was a pretty quick turnaround,” Parton said.

The six weeks before the 2022 Super Bowl encompassed Parton’s 76th birthday. This year, Cyrus’ birthday tribute to her godmother included a cell phone scene, making us wonder if the T-Mobile ad inspired the “Midnight Sky” singer’s choice.

Miley Cyrus posted a ‘Hannah Montana’ clip featuring her godmother that connects with their Super Bowl commercials

Miley Cyrus honored Dolly Parton on her 76th birthday by posting a Hannah Montana scene they performed together many years ago.

Cyrus posted the clip on Instagram on Jan. 19. In the scene, Cyrus and Parton sat together on a couch when a phone suddenly rang. “Uh, Aunt Dolly, I think your hair’s ringing,” Cyrus says.

Parton pulled a cell phone out of her signature big blonde hair and retorted, “Well honey, when your pants are as tight as mine, you gotta have somewhere to put your phone!”

Cyrus captioned the clip, “One of the many invaluable lessons learned from @dollyparton ❤️ Happy Birthday Aunt Dolly!”

Perhaps working together on their T-Mobile commercials in the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl made Cyrus think of the Disney show scene.
