Unlike some celebrities, Dolly Parton has never shied away from the fact that she’s had plastic surgery. The “Jolene” singer has always been open and honest about the work she’s had done over the course of her career despite what others think. Parton has shared that her trademark style and look makes her feel her best and fans seem to appreciate her candidness. They’ve especially loved the little quips she’s made about her surgery over the years.

Whereas many public figures are constantly denying that they’ve had surgery to change their looks, Parton has been nothing but honest. But why did the Hannah Montana alum make the decision to be vocal about the fact that she’s gotten work done? In a 2003 interview with Larry King Live, Parton shared that she never wanted to lie about her looks.

Dolly Parton likes to keep herself looking young

“But I don’t want to lie about it, so I’ve got to — I think sometimes it might help,” Parton told King, sharing that she’s had a face lift, eye surgery, breast implants, liposuction, excess skin removal, lip injections, botox, and more. “You know, it’s not like — I mean, I look so totally artificial, you know, but I hopefully am totally real.”

The 9 to 5 artist shared that she enjoyed keeping all parts of her body as taut as possible. “I would say if I — you know, if I see something sagging, dragging, or bagging, I’m going to go have the stuff tucked or plucked.” Though Parton has had quite a bit of work done, she gets her surgery in small doses so as not to go overboard and risk negative side effects.

The songwriter explains she picks the best doctors for her surgery

“I try to pick the best doctor, and I don’t do it that often,” Parton explained about how she approached plastic surgery. “I just — I actually do it in little bits and pieces, because I don’t want to do a whole big drastic thing.  I’ve never had, like, just the whole big thing done, because I don’t want to look like, you know, tighter than a banjo head.”

While some people may be frightened to go under the knife, Parton shared that she combats any fear by being well-researched. With a net worth of $600 million, the Moderna vaccine funder has more than enough money to afford the best surgeons and she doesn’t cut corners. Furthermore, she doesn’t look at plastic surgery as a huge procedure, but rather as a way to keep herself maintained. Hilariously, she likened herself to a show dog.

Parton compared herself to a show dog

“But, no, it don’t scare me, as long as you’ve got the nerve, you’ve got the money and you’ve got the pride,” Parton revealed when asked if she was scared to continue with her plastic surgery. “I look at myself like a show dog. I’ve got to keep clipped and trimmed and in good shape.” We’re sure Parton’s fans appreciate her candor and humor about her plastic surgery. It’s refreshing to see such a huge celebrity owning it rather than pretending it never happened.
