Olivia Wilde is back with exactly the kind of movie that would leave audiences disturbed yet wanting more. The actor and director debuted the first look for her second directorial feature Don’t Worry, Darling starring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh in leading roles. It would be safe to say that the teaser shook the viewers to their core.
But before talking about the movie, we have to address the biggest highlight of the teaser.
Pugh and Styles Share a Passionate Kiss in the Teaser
While Wilde and Styles stans will have to wait to see the couple together in a movie, they won’t have to wait to see Styles and Pugh together. In the third frame of the short teaser, the viewers got a glimpse of what can be expected of the chemistry between Pugh and Styles.
The couple, married in the movie, is shown sharing an intensely intimate moment together. Even though the viewers only get a split-second image of what is probably going to be a longer scene, it is enough fodder for the fans to eagerly wait for more details and, obviously, the movie to come out.
Phew! Now that this is out of the way, we can talk about other things, like what is the movie about?
‘Don’t Worry, Darling’ is a psychological thriller
Set in a utopian experimental community of the 1950s, Don’t Worry, Darling revolves around Alice, played by Pugh who is married to Jack, played by Styles. A housewife, things go awry for Alice when she realizes that her husband is not who he seems. A disturbing truth and a dark secret upend the perfect life of the couple.
The teaser gives a sneak peek into all of this as the viewers are let in into Alice and Jack’s lives as a peaceful-looking Alice enjoys the sun by the pool. Set to Pugh’s Alice singing in a low, unsettling voice, the teaser devolves into several distressing moments as we see Alice underwater and later, with her head wrapped in bubble wrap.
Apart from these, the teaser also gave a look inside the glamorous world that the couple will be shown living in. From Styles in a white tux to a water-ballet performance — the movie pulls out all the stops. Even as the teaser does not give away much about the film, it gives away enough to get the viewers hooked.
What else do we know about the film?
Wilde, who is directing her second feature film, chose to team up with her Booksmart screenplay writer, Katie Silberman for Don’t Worry, Darling. The movie is based on the story written by Silberman along with Carey and Shane Van Dyke.
But Wilde didn’t just stop there. She also stars in the movie alongside actors like Gemma Chan, who will be seen in Marvel’s Eternals, The Old Guard actor Kiki Layne and Chris Pine. Nick Kroll, Douglas Smith, Sydney Chandler, and Kate Berlant also star in the movie.
The biggest detail the teaser probably revealed was the release date of the movie. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, the movie is slated to release on Sep. 23, 2022.
