Dorinda Medley will not be returning to The Real Housewives of New York City. The reality TV personality announced she was leaving the show after six seasons. Although no real reason was given for her departure, there have been rumors about the reason why. One rumor says Medley was axed from the franchise for a mean joke suggesting Tinsley Mortimer use a turkey baster to get pregnant.

Wait, what did Dorinda Medley say?

Medley had a rough season on RHONY and her disdain for Tinsley Mortimer made her say a horrible thing. Fans of the show know that Mortimer’s dream was to find a man, get married and start a family. The New York City socialite was open about her desire to have a baby and talked about freezing her eggs as she was approaching 40 years of age.

During one of the tiffs Mortimer had with Medley, the latter made a horrible comment about the former needing a turkey baster to get pregnant.

“I mean, the vile turkey baster comment,” Mortimer said bringing up the issue during the season 12 reunion. “When women who cannot get pregnant and the infertility is such a huge…”

Medley said “sorry” for making that statement but Mortimer continued expressing how horrible it was and included Andy Cohen.

“A turkey baster? That’s IVF, ok?” Mortimer added. “Andy’s baby was from IVF. Would you say the same thing to Andy?”

“I said I’m sorry I said that. I apologize,” Medley said. “It was a bad joke and I’m sorry.”

Cohen also weighed-in and said it was “mean.”

Andy Cohen talks about Dorinda Medley

It was the turkey baster comment that was allegedly that made Cohen want to not renew Medley’s RHONY contract. However, the Watch What Happens Live host said it was not true and he delved into the issue on his SiriusXM show.

“There was a big story on Page Six that her turkey baster comment was the last straw for me personally,” Cohen said on Radio Andy. “Well, while I didn’t like that comment, that’s not true.”

Cohen debunked Medley was let go for the tasteless comment. Furthermore, he added that during the reunion, Medley said “she should’ve taken the year off.” The Bravo TV personality said Medley “was in a bad place, her house had been flooded, her dad was sick.”

“We lost Bethenny [Frankel] right as filming began and we lost Tinsley halfway through the season. So maybe Dorinda didn’t feel like she could take the year off,” Cohen added.

“Sometimes taking a pause is a good thing and I am really hopeful that this is indeed a pause and that she would rejoin the show at some point,” Cohen said noting that he doesn’t say this to all the Housewives. “I think a pause is a good thing and she will come back renewed and refreshed.”

Dorinda Medley announces departure

It was at the end of August that Medley announced she was departing RHONY after 6 seasons on the show.

“What a journey this has been. I have laughed and cried and tried to Make it Nice…,” she wrote on Instagram. “But all things must come to an end. This was a great outlet for me to heal when my late husband Richard passed away.”

Medley was truly iconic and fans can continue to watch her as the RHONY Season 12 continues to unfold on Thursday nights on Bravo.
