Everything went smoothly on camera. In fact, they were able to pipe Diaz into Barrymore’s New York Studio from L.A. However, she experienced some technical glitches while getting the gang back together. Here’s how Barrymore accidentally send a boy she didn’t know a bathroom video.

Why the ‘Charlie’s Angels’ had to be Drew Barrymore’s first guests

The trio made Charlie’s Angels in 2000, and the sequel in 2003. They’ve remained friends for 20 years, so Barrymore thought of them.

“When we sat around and thought about who is this first guest, nothing felt right,” Barrymore said. “Nothing was there and all of a sudden, in like a divine intervention, I was like, ‘Cameron and Lucy’ and everything fell into place. We’ve been through everything together. I haven’t had a wedding you guys haven’t been at. When our babies are born, we hang out and we do the birthday party thing. I can’t believe we’re all moms now.”

Cameron Diaz didn’t get Drew Barrymore’s first message

Barymore reached out to Diaz first. When she didn’t hear back, Barrymore got concerned.

“First I sent Cameron a video and I’m saying, ‘Hey, listen, I want to ask you something. Will you come on the show?’ I’ve never done this in my life. Because I’m so comfortable, we have lived together all over the world, so of course to save time I sent her a video while I’m getting dressed. You don’t see anything, I’m not that dumb, but I’m getting out of the shower and I’m wringing out of my towel. I’m really hamming it up.”

That sort of message deserves a reply. So the radio silence worried Barrymore.

“I don’t hear back from her for like two days and I’m like, ‘This is weird.’ I text her, I don’t care about the question. Are you okay?’ I don’t hear again for two days.”

Cameron Diaz didn’t know what she was talking about

Video aside, Barrymore called Diaz to check in on her. That’s when she realized she sent the video to the wrong number.

“So I call her and I go, ‘What is going on? I’m worried. Is everything okay?’” Barrymore said. “She’s like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ I’m like, ‘The video. You didn’t get my video?’ Turns out a young boy got the video.

Diaz thought this was hilarious, and was confident that boy would appreciate the mistake for a long time.

“By the way, it’s like seven minutes long,” Diaz said. “It’s epic. This is some material, he’s going to have this material, honestly this is going to last him three or four years.”
