Dua Lipa Says Gwen Stefani ‘Physical’ Remix Will Take a Week Longer — Here’s Why
The Future Nostalgia singer began the interview with some news about “Physical” as the singers shared their mutual inspiration. You can watch the full interview below, and read why “Physical” is going to take a week longer than Dua Lipa originally predicted.
Why Dua Lipa had to have Gwen Stefani on her remix album
Dua Lipa told Stefani that the former No Doubt frontwoman had been a huge influence on her own music career. No Doubt’s second album, Tragic Kingdom, was a chart topper in 1996 with singles “Just a Girl,” “Spider Webs” and “Don’t Speak.” Stefani’s solo work was influential too.
“I’m a massive, massive fan of yours,” Dua Lipa said. “I did learn how to spell bananas because of you. I’d play your songs, I’d pause them, I’d write them down, I’d pause the song again, write them down just so I could learn the words to all your songs.”

Stefani could relate to obsessing over music. Her influential obsessions were showtunes.
“I think I used to be obsessed with musicals when I was a kid, like Evita or the Annie soundtrack,” Stefani said. “That was one that we used to have cassette tapes and me and my sister used to listen to it. We’d memorize the warped part of the tape. We even memorized that part but never thought that it would lead to being able to make music and be a songwriter but here we are, lucky.”
Gwen Stefani was thrilled to record with Dua Lipa
Stefani has experienced many different successes in her career. She was in a successful band and had a successful solo career. She also got to be a judge on NBC’s The Voice. Stefani tod Dua Lipa that her invitation to remix “Physical” from her Future Nostalgia album came at just the right time.
“That’s so crazy,” Stefani said. “When you think that nothing is ever going to happen again, you get asked to be on your song and I’m like, ‘Yeah, of course I’ll do that.’ And you’re so cool. Thanks for having me.”
The ‘Physical’ remix was support to be out Aug. 21
On Aug. 4, Dua Lipa tweeted a remix album of her latest release, Future Nostalgia. Her anticipated date was originally Aug. 21.
“CLUB FUTURE NOSTALGIA THE REMIX ALBUM W THE BLESSED MADONNA COMING AUGUST 21ST,” the singer wrote. “LEVITATING AUGUST 14TH – FEATURING MISSY ELLIOTT & MADONNA – PHYSICAL FT. GWEN STEFANI REMIXED BY MARK RONSON +++ ALL FUTURE NOSTALGIA TRACKS N THEN SUM REMIXED BY UR FAVES.”
Dua Lipa has plans for animated music videos for every remix track. Unfortunately, animation takes time.
“The pleasure is all mien and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it,” Dua Lipa said. “Our song will come out on August 28 because, as you know, we’re doing an animation for every single song on the record. So it’s going to take a little bit of time but it’s going to be amazing and just wait until they hear you.”
