The Duggar family is one of the largest clans in all the U.S., as the parents, Jim Bob and Michelle are able to boast that they have 19 children. The family is proud of their fundamentalist Christian faith, and one of the unique facts about them is that all the children’s names begin with the letter “J.” Although the Duggars live by hold strong values, that doesn’t mean that they are strangers to scandal. Josh Duggar has been charged with receiving and possessing child pornography, and fans have been glued to the news outlets since his trial began on Nov. 30, 2021. Duggar family critics have called out Michelle Duggar for her tone-deaf Facebook post amid Josh’s trial.

What are the charges against Josh Duggar?

The Duggar family is constantly in the public eye, so what is it that Josh did to get so much negative attention? After being arrested in his home state of Arkansas, it was revealed that the oldest son in the family was indicted on child pornography charges.

According to Us Weekly, a press release offered further details, saying that, “A Springdale man was arrested yesterday for receiving and possessing material depicting the sexual abuse of children. According to court documents, Joshua James Duggar, 33, allegedly used the internet to download child sexual abuse material.”

Duggar was held without bond, and to complicate matters even more, the scandal happened just as he and his wife, Anna Duggar, announced that they were expecting their seventh child, a daughter.

Michelle Duggar may have taken things a bit too far with her recent Facebook post. The family matriarch took to social media to share the link for an audiobook titled We Will Not Be Silenced, and included the caption “I just finished listening to this audiobook! This powerful book by Dr. Erwin Lutzer has been extremely helpful and thought-provoking. I highly recommended it for every Christian in America!”

Sharing one’s favorite books isn’t uncommon for social media users, but fans were quick to call out Michelle for her “tone-deaf” post.

One person said, “There’s no assault on Christianity. But your son has assaulted children and his sisters. Maybe look for some books related to dealing with trauma and guiding children in the right manner to ask and receive help.”

Aonther person wrote, “I’m not 100% sure you know what assault is. There’s no assault on Christianity, but there was assault on your children under your roof. Maybe look for some audiobooks and resources for yourself, and some relating to trauma for your daughters.”

Unfortunately, Josh has been called out for similar behavior in the past. He previously admitted to sexually assaulting four of his sisters (along with another unrelated female,) who were all underage at the time, when he was a teenager.

Additionally, it was revealed in 2015 that Duggar was a member of the social networking site, Ashley Madison, which facilitates illicit extramarital affairs. Duggar is said to have spent almost $1,000 on his accounts, most notably, a $250 “affair guarantee.”

Now that his trial has begun, fans and critics alike can only wait and see what will happen and hope for justice and closure for all involved.
