From the public’s perspective, comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres appeared to be one of the nicest people in Hollywood. The LGBTQ activist built her legacy on kindness, and a large portion of The Ellen DeGeneres Show focuses on giving back.

Now, current and former Ellen Show employees are coming forward to denounce the show’s work environment and DeGeneres’ attitude, claiming she is out of touch and aloof.

In fact, one source has alleged the 62-year-old “lives in an incredibly privileged bubble,” which has allowed many upsetting things to occur under her nose.

The ‘Ellen Show’ is being called a toxic work environment

Several people have recently come forward to describe The Ellen DeGeneres Show as a toxic work environment.

“They pull on people’s heartstrings; they do know that’s going to get likes and what people are going to go for, which is a positive message, but that’s not always reality,” a former employee told BuzzFeed News.

Other employees have called out racism behind the scenes, bullying, an abnormal work culture, and more.

Executive producers Ed Glavin, Mary Connelly, and Andy Lassner released a statement to BuzzFeed News following the claims. “We are truly heartbroken and sorry to learn that even one person in our production family has had a negative experience,” they said. “It’s not who we are and not who we strive to be, and not the mission Ellen has set for us.”

Ellen DeGeneres has been called ‘very cold’

Back in April, Variety broke the news that Ellen crew members received poor communication about their job status amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Further irritating the crew, the show also hired an outside company to assist DeGeneres in taping from her home. This is when the floodgates opened with claims about working conditions on the show and DeGeneres herself.

YouTuber Nikkie de Jager, aka NikkieTutorials, claimed the talk show host was unwelcoming.

Meanwhile, former bodyguard Tom Majercak told Fox News DeGeneres was rude to him when he was assigned to her for an award show. He said:

Ellen pretty much just gave me a side glance out of her eye and didn’t even say ‘hello,’ or ‘thank you for protecting my mother, my wife, and me.’ It was very cold and it was very sly and it was actually kind of demeaning in the way that she treats people other than those who are in her circle.

Ellen DeGeneres lives in an incredibly privileged bubble, former staff claims

ow, one former staffer has come forward to share more alleged insight into DeGeneres’ behavior.

“It’s not that she’s some demon,” the former producer explained to the New York Post. “She just lives in an incredibly privileged bubble and is out of touch with the real world.”

According to BuzzFeed News, several former employees put the blame on the executive producers and others in management for the alleged toxic environment.

“I think the executive producers surround her and tell her, ‘Things are going great, everybody’s happy,’ and she just believes that but it’s her responsibility to go beyond that,” a former employee said.

DeGeneres released a statement on July 30, 2020, addressing these claims. She stated,

As we’ve grown exponentially, I’ve not been able to stay on top of everything and relied on others to do their jobs as they knew I’d want them done. Clearly some didn’t. That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again.
