The end of HBO’s Game of Thrones has so many people thinking: what’s next?

For fans, it means figuring out a new show to look forward to on Sunday nights (and somehow, Keeping Up With the Kardashians doesn’t quite fill the Iron Throne-shapedhole in our hearts). But for the actors who spent a decade portraying our most beloved characters on screen, it means something completely different.

Many of the most recognizable GOT actors and actresses were relatively unknown before they signed on for the series. Besides Sean Bean (Ned Stark) and Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), most of the actors didn’t enjoy name recognition. Now? They’re veritable superstars trying to establish new identities in a post-Game of Thrones world.

Emilia Clarke has one regret about the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’

It’s impossible to forget the incredible performance that Emilia Clarke gave while portraying Daenerys Targaryen, who started out as a smaller part and gradually became one of the most important players on the show. Her quest for the Iron Throne may have ended tragically, but her legacy lives on.

The 32-year-old actress appeared on the cover of Variety magazine’s June issue and shared some thoughts about the show in the accompanying interview. Her big “regret” from the show? She wishes she had brought home a physical symbol of her time spent as the Mother of Dragons.

“I didn’t take anything from the set and I deeply regret it and I’m very annoyed and I’m really hoping that the showrunners will give me a dragon egg. Having it come to its final moment feels utterly surreal and completely bizarre and so much life has happened in the ten years…At first, it was an existential crisis. Who am I? Where are my dragons?” she explained.

“It felt really deeply emotional… You saw everyone’s truthful fragility as it ended… When it did finally end, it broke everyone.”

After the show ended, Kit Harington (Jon Snow) checked into a pricey rehab facility to work on some mental health issues he was having. Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) jetted off to Las Vegas and got married to her boyfriend Joe Jonas in a surprise ceremony. Many of the actors are branching off into other genres and film roles. Now that the show is over, they have all the opportunities in the world.

Not everyone was thrilled with how Game of Thrones ended, though author George R.R. Martin maintains that the show followed his plan for the final books in the series (which aren’t written yet). Still, the actors stand by the controversial ending and were deeply offended by fan petitions to redo it.

Emilia Clarke paid homage to her character in an emotional Instagram post

Right before the final episode aired, Clarke took to social media to share her feelings about bidding farewell to Daenerys. She said, “Finding the words to write this post has left me overwhelmed with how much I want to say but how small words feel in comparison to what this show and Dany have meant to me.”

“The mother of dragons chapter has taken up the whole of my adult life. This woman has taken up the whole of my heart. I’ve sweated in the blaze of dragon fire, shed many tears at those who left our family early, and wrung my brain dry trying to do Khaleesi and the masterful words, actions (and names) I was given, justice. Game of Thrones has shaped me as a woman, as an actor and as a human being. I just wish my darling dad was here now to see how far we’ve flown.”
