Emmys 2021: Cedric the Entertainer Joked About Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Oprah Interview Plus Prince Charles’ Dance Moves

Cedric the Entertainer called Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Oprah interview 'the real tea' at the 2021 Emmy Awards. He also joked that their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, would have to teach Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II about TikTok.

The British royal family got a good roasting at the 2021 Emmy Awards courtesy of host Cedric the Entertainer. Not only did The Neighborhood star joke about Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex but the 57-year-old also made a few playful remarks about the couple’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, as well as Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II.

After being featured on the cover of Time magazine — the publication named Meghan and Harry icons on their annual list of the 100 most influential people — the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were back in the spotlight. At the 2021 Emmy Awards Cedric the Entertainer made a joke about their bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview that aired in March 2021, according to Newsweek.

The longtime stand-up comedian talked about the couple and The Crown, the Netflix original series about the queen’s reign, that dominated the Emmys with seven wins.

“As great as The Crown is, it pales in comparison to the real monarchy,” he told the star-studded audience. “Ooooh, I mean that Oprah interview with Prince Harry and Meghan. That was the real tea right there, wasn’t it!? Meghan must put it on that boy because he renounced his throne quicker than Eddie Murphy in Coming to America.”

Cedric the Entertainer didn’t stop there. In addition to poking fun at Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview, he also made a few good-hearted jabs at their 2-year-old son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, Prince Charles, and the queen.

“I can’t believe they were talking about little Archie. How dark that little baby gonna be,” Cedric the Entertainer said, referring to Meghan and Harry’s claim that a royal made racist comments about Archie’s appearance prior to his birth in May 2019.

“They need little Archie! Charles can’t dance, who else [is] going to teach them how to TikTok? I can just see it now, baby Archie with the queen, like come on gammy,” he added. “The whole crown behind them like, ‘OK your majesty, I see you.’”

Meghan and Harry weren’t just a punchline at the awards show. The parents of two — the Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed daughter Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor in June 2021 — were also nominees. Meghan and Harry’s Oprah interview landed an Emmy nod in the Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special category.

However, Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special didn’t take home the prize. CNN’s Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy was named the winner at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony.

Finally, what about Meghan and Harry’s reaction to Cedric the Entertainer’s joke? They’re among the celebrities who skipped the Emmy Awards. So they weren’t in the audience as the Emmy host poked fun at their Oprah interview.
