Even though Fox’s musical drama series Empire revolves around a fictional recording label, the show has included several real-life celebrities in the entertainment industry, including Snoop Dogg, Funkmaster Flex, Rita Ora, and Estelle.

For Empire Season 6 Episode 13, legendary R&B group En Vogue made a special appearance, and several viewers were “here” for it.

Carol found out Cookie killed her boyfriend

At the beginning of Season 6 Episode 13, appropriately titled, “Come Undone,” Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) confessed to Lucious (Terrence Howard) that she shot and killed her sister’s abusive then-boyfriend and father of her two children Durrell.

While Lucious advised Cookie to leave it in the past, the Bossy Media partner wanted to tell her sister, Carol (Tasha Smith), in her own timing, because she no longer wanted to live with secrets.

Later, Lucious went to Cookie’s house to demand that she pull his artist, Yana (Kiandra Richardson), from the Music Weekly show, which she entered without his permission.

However, Cookie refused, and Lucious brought up the murder of Durrell, with Carol standing right behind him. Even though Cookie tried to explain why she shot him, her sister left, devastated.

Carol ruined an En Vogue performance while on drugs

At the beginning of the season, Carol was a drug-addict who still lived in the same neighborhood where Lucious used to sell drugs. Throughout the seasons, she picked herself up, got sober, and now works with her sister, Cookie.

However, finding out that her sister killed Durrell, the only man she believed loved her regardless of the abuse, caused her to relapse. In the middle of the legendary R&B group En Vogue’s performance, Carol entered the venue dancing, yelling, and clearly on drugs.

She continued dancing and carrying on, ignoring the warnings of her two sisters. Eventually, Carol ended up on stage, ruining the En Vogue performance. Once Cookie and other sister Candace had Carol under control, somewhat, she went on a drug-induced rant and admitted they had something to do with Cookie going to prison.

Fans react to En Vogue’s appearance in ‘Empire’ Season 6 Episode 13

One Empire viewer uploaded a GIF of the original En Vogue video to the song they performed in the episode, “Never Gonna Get It,” and captioned it they are “here” for the performance.

Another fan thanked Taraji P. Henson for “bringing back good vibes” with the 90’s R&B group. Others admitted they were annoyed when Carol ruined the number as they were enjoying the throwback. Some critics pointed out that not all the original members returned for the Empire performance such as Dawn Robinson and Maxine Jones. Therefore, it didn’t impress them.

One fan suggested the show invite other old school girl groups to perform, including Salt-N-Pepa “and the surviving TLC members.” For the most part, viewers were excited to see En Vogue as they hadn’t heard from the group in nearly 20 years.

Empire Season 6 finale airs Wednesday, March 24, 2020, at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
