As the Marvel Cinematic Universe heads into Phase 4, there are a lot of films (and TV series) to look forward to. But one of the most talked-about is The Eternals. This entry will introduce an entirely new property and a lot of new characters to the world, and is poised to change things forever. Now that it’s wrapped, read on to learn what we know about the film and why fans are so eager for November 2020.

‘The Eternals’ was announced in 2019

The film was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019. An incredible ensemble of accomplished actors came out on stage while Kevin Feige revealed that this next giant superhero team-up film was due out on Nov. 6, 2020, making it the second film in Phase 4.

Just a month later, at Disney’s D23 Expo, even more information was given, including a sneak peek at the costumes the characters will wear. Even more cast members were in attendance (from left to right: Barry Keoghan (Druig), Richard Madden (Ikaris), Angelina Jolie (Thena), Lauren Ridloff (Makkari), Kumail Nanjiani (Kingo), Lia McHugh (Sprite), Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos), Salma Hayek (Ajak), and Don Lee (Gilgamesh)).

The film began shooting shortly thereafter

There is a lot of mystery around The Eternals. And Marvel plans to keep it that way as long as possible. However, there have been quite a few leaked images from filming, which has taken place all over the world, from London to the Canary Islands.

With so many varying locations and characters, it’s obvious that this is a film that will cover a lot of ground. Some are even afraid that it’s too big of a risk for Marvel to try to fit this large of an origin story into one film. But for now, we’ll just have to speculate.

Gemma Chan announces she’s wrapped

Two characters who haven’t been mentioned are thought to be the central ones. A romance between Gemma Chan’s Sersi (an Eternal) and Kit Harrington’s Dane Whitman (a human hero who goes by the moniker the Black Knight) is seemingly confirmed, and will likely root the story in the present day.

We know that Nanjiani has already wrapped, and now, it appears as though production is really winding down. On Feb. 4, 2020, Chan announced that she’d wrapped shooting for The Eternals. With the film due out later this year, we’re glad to hear they’re headed into post production.

Why fans are so excited for the MCU film

For many reasons, The Eternals is Marvel’s most anticipated of its upcoming films. Black Widow has received backlash from its early trailers and images. And when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness lost its director, some lost their belief in the movie altogether.

What makes The Eternals so exciting — beyond on its incredible cast — is that it looks to do what Guardians of the Galaxy did before it. By bringing in epic new heroes who will team up and help save the world (and beyond) the way the Avengers once did, many fans are hopeful that this will be the kind of massive-scale flick they’ve loved in the past.
