The Legend of Zelda series has had 36 years of games, but very few adaptations to movies and TV shows have ever seen the light of day. The infamous Legend of Zelda cartoon left a bad taste in some fans’ mouths. However, with the recent successes of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, they’re ready to see a Legend of Zelda live-action series, and fans want Euphoria actor Hunter Schafer to play Princess Zelda.

Nintendo fans imagine ‘Euphoria’ actor Hunter Schafer as the ruler of Hyrule, Princess Zelda

The Legend of Zelda cartoon really only had the original 1986 NES game and the Zelda II: The Adventure of Link to draw on. However, one fan imagined the Euphoria actor Hunter Schafer playing the princess from a more recent game like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

“Hear me out: Hunter Schafer as Princess Zelda in a Legend of Zelda movie,” the user said. “Just putting that out there.”

The video was accompanied by the main theme from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. She flashed a picture of the actor and the princess with the caption, “But who would play Link?”

And the suggestion went viral. Nintendo fans talked about it so much that the rumors reached the actor, prompting a response.

The Euphoria actor responded to the fan push at a red carpet event, citing that she played the Nintendo games growing up. When asked if she had heard about the viral TikTok video, she said, “No, I did not, wow!”

“I mean, yeah, that would be cool! Like an elf?” Schafer told Entertainment Tonight. “Yeah, I’ve played that video game a bunch when I was a kid, that was such a good game.”

The more hardcore Legend of Zelda fans might have prickled at Hunter Schafer calling Princess Zelda an “elf” (when she’s technically a Hylian like Link, who all have pointed ears to hear their gods and goddesses).

However, the actor expressed enthusiasm for the fan casting, loving the idea of playing the pointy-eared princess.

Hunter Schafer, age 23, was born in 1999, just before The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask released on Nintendo 64 the following year (a game that also went viral recently).

She fondly remembers growing up playing The Legend of Zelda games. With Twilight Princess releasing when she would turn seven and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword dropping when she turned 12, she had plenty of the Nintendo games to experience.

However, while The Legend of Zelda franchise has been voted the most wanted video game adaptation, Nintendo has not announced anything official.

And fans would take any news, especially after The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was delayed to 2023.

Unfortunately, all fans can do is wait to see if Hunter Schafer could play Princess Zelda in a live-action series.
