In Euphoria Season 2 Episode 6, Nate realized he had to get Cal’s sex tape back from Maddy. Nate is concerned about how the tape could negatively affect his future, so he shows up at Maddy’s house with a gun.

At first, Maddy lies and says she doesn’t have it. Nate then empties the gun of all of its bullets except for one and proceeds to play Russian Roulette, not with Maddy but with himself. Maddy sobs and eventually tells Nate where the disk is located. Nate takes the disk and reveals to Maddy that the gun didn’t have any bullets in it at all. Then he leaves her traumatized.

Alexa Demie discusses filming this ‘incredibly difficult’ scene

Alexa Demie plays Maddy in Euphoria Season 2. The actor told Entertainment Weekly how taxing it was to film the scene with Nate actor Jacob Elordi.

“It was an incredibly difficult scene not only because of the gun to my head, but because it was choreographed in a really specific way. We had to move with the camera movements and it was really broken up, and so it took us two days to shoot. It was basically all we did all day on those days.”

Demie also explained that there wasn’t a lot of preparation going into filming this moment between Nate and Maddy. “We didn’t have a lot of time. We kind of just jumped into it,” Demie told Entertainment Weekly.

The actor continued, “We were really figuring it out as we went on and as we were shooting it. Sam was discovering new things with the camera, and Jacob and I were discovering new things with the dynamic between us.”

Alexa Demie explains why Maddy tried to lie to Nate

Although Maddy sees that Nate has a gun, and she knows how violent Nate can be, the teenager initially tries to lie and tell Nate she doesn’t have the tape. Demie explained to Entertainment Weekly why Maddy didn’t give Nate the disc right away. “Despite her feeling fear, she’s trying to test how far this person she thought loved her would go,” Demie said.

“She also knows it’s Jules in the tape and doesn’t want to see her get hurt by giving it back to him. She’s going through every possible situation in her head while in survival mode and we see this person go too far, which breaks her. It’s heartbreaking to see her experience something so violent and traumatic, and it’s the moment that really shifts things for her.”
