Maddy tries on her boss’ clothes in ‘Euphoria’ Season 2

Alexa Demie plays Maddy, and her character has been going through a rough time in Euphoria Season 2. Her best friend Cassie betrayed her and began sleeping with Nate Jacobs. Later, Nate shows up at her house with a gun to get his dad’s sex tap back. Through all of this, Maddy works as a babysitter for a wealthy family and is surprisingly good at her job.

Minka Kelly plays Samantha, Maddy’s stylish boss. When the parents are away, Maddy sneaks into Samantha’s closet and tries on her gorgeous and elegant dresses. “[Maddy] feels very stuck after the whole Nate experience and it’s just been an intense year from the first season,” costume designer Heidi Bivens explained in an interview with WWD.

“She is inspired by Minka Kelly’s character who is the woman of the house and is projecting this idea that that could be her because she sees Minka as having this handsome husband and they have money and a kid and she seems happy.”

Aralda Vintage supplied the gorgeous dresses in Samantha’s closet

Samantha’s closet in Euphoria Season 2 is full of gorgeous dresses. According to Vogue, the outfits in Samantha’s closet are all from Aralda Vintage. “Alexa [Demie] was actually one of my very first customers when I opened my first brick-and-mortar store in 2017,” Brynn Jones, founder of Aralda Vintage, told Vogue.

“She introduced me to [costume designer] Heidi Bivens, [who] explained the scene where Maddy tries on all these gowns. And [so] we had multiple fittings and Heidi was like, ‘I think I’m just going to use all of the pieces from you [for the closet].’” Some of the looks include a gold kaftan by Halston and a Chanel spring/summer 1997 dress and matching bag.

“When I was working on it, I did feel pretty passionate about it for the people who watch Euphoria and love fashion,” Jones told Vogue. “The fashion montage is always my favorite part of a movie, like in CluelessPretty Woman13 Going On 30. It’s always such a classic moment for me, so it was such an honor to have a part [in this].”

Jones worked with the costume and production teams to put Samantha’s stunning vintage closet together. They even added a story behind the character’s wardrobe. [“We thought] maybe this woman is a vintage collector that has this amazing [archive],” Jones explained to Vogue.

Does Samantha know Maddy tries on her dresses in ‘Euphoria’ Season 2?

Several scenes in Euphoria Season 2 show Maddy trying on Samantha’s dresses and she narrowly avoids getting caught more than once. However, there’s reason to believe Samantha knows what Maddy is doing. In one scene, Maddy hurries to put away a pair of earrings and leaves open a drawer as she rushes out.

Afterward, eagle-eyed fans will have noticed that episode 6 revealed there is a camera in Samantha’s room. This seems to suggest that Samantha is already aware Maddy raids her closet. It’s possible Samantha just has the cameras for security purposes. Still, some fans think she could turn out to be a much more sinister character.

New episodes of Euphoria air Sundays on HBO and HBO Max at 9 p.m. EST.
