‘Euphoria’: Sydney Sweeney Teased What’s Next for Cassie and It’s ‘Gonna Be Crazy’
Though Euphoria Season 2 has been packed full of surprises, the arc of Sydney Sweeney’s character, Cassie Howard, has been one of the most jarring shifts. While Cassie had her fair share of boy problems in the first season, her affair with Nate Jacobs in the sophomore season has helped her spiral to new lows. But it seems that there’s still plenty more in store for Cassie in the next four episodes.
Many fans of Euphoria were disappointed that neither Nate nor Cassie got their comeuppance in last night’s episode. After Rue dropped the bomb that the pair had been secretly hooking up, it seemed like Cassie’s days were numbered. This was especially true after Maddy threatened Cassie with bodily harm and seemingly prayed for the strength not to physically harm her backstabbing best friend. Instead, episode 6 found Maddy being traumatized by Nate, yet again, while Cassie tried desperately to make the case that she was innocent.
Sydney Sweeney on why her ‘Euphoria’ character doesn’t see herself as a side chick
In an interview with GQ UK, Sweeney got candid about Cassie’s thought process and why the teenager can’t understand why people are upset with her. “I don’t think Cassie truly believes that she is at fault,” the Euphoria actor admitted. “She doesn’t see what she did is wrong because technically Maddy and Nate weren’t together. There’s a line that she crossed, but it wasn’t like she was the side girl. And that’s why she’s more mad at Nate for still continuing some sort of relationship with Maddy.”
Sweeney teases that things will get even crazier for Cassie Howard
Cassie has already had a wild ride in Euphoria Season 2. However, if Sweeney is to be believed, there’s still plenty more in store for the doe-eyed blonde. When asked what was next for her problematic character, The Players Table producer was pretty tight-lipped. However, she did tease that it’s “gonna be crazy.”
‘Euphoria’ fans are expecting a physical fight between Maddy and Cassie
Given some of Sweeney’s past interviews, some Euphoria fans are convinced that a physical altercation between Maddy and Cassie is all but inevitable. While appearing on The Late Late Show With James Corden, Sweeney revealed that Alexa Demie (who portrays Maddy Perez) accidentally broke her toe while they were filming one of their final scenes.
“Well in one of the episodes, a character that’s very upset with Cassie right now, accidentally stepped on me and it broke my toe in three places,” the Euphoria star revealed. When pressed, the actor-producer admitted that it was Demie who caused her toe to “explode”. In fact, the injury was so bad that Sweeney had to go to the emergency room before returning to the set for the wrap party.
All signs seem to be pointing to Cassie getting her just due before Euphoria Season 2 is over and done. We can only hope that Nate also gets what’s coming to him. Because clearly, the beatdown in the season 2 premiere wasn’t enough to change his terrible behavior.
