The Marvel Cinematic Universe has featured its fair share of compelling characters. And after more than 20 films, the MCU has still only scratched the surface of roles available. Marvel has cast some well-known actors, along with some lesser-known performers. And it looks to be continuing that trend for upcoming projects. Some Marvel fans even have a tongue-in-cheek theory that there will be a Marvel character for every actor in Hollywood.

The A-listers who inhabit the Marvel Cinematic Universe

In today’s era of filmmaking, well-known franchises are likely to find success at the box office. And they tend to attract A-list talent. With that in mind, it makes sense that the MCU would have plenty of A-listers in many of its roles.

Some of those actors include: Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio, Michael Keaton as Vulture, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange.

Many of these actors have starred in other massive box office hits outside of the MCU. And some have won major awards, including Oscars. But that’s not to say these major stars are the only ones to inhabit this universe.

The lesser-known actors who have appeared in the MCU

Being as successful as it is, Marvel also has the luxury of taking chances on some of its performers. The studio has put some relatively unknown actors into prominent roles. They include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

Other actors weren’t exactly unknown, but they also weren’t major stars at the time of their casting. These performers include Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, and Chris Pratt as Star-Lord.

Marvel has an incredibly deep bench of characters, which means it will have plenty of opportunities to cast more A-listers and unknowns. In fact, some fans believe there might be a role for every actor in Hollywood.

Will every Hollywood actor get to play a role in the MCU?

Marvel fans on Reddit recently discussed the new additions to Phase 4 of the MCU. The sheer volume of actors is overwhelming, and one fan pointed out the obvious:

“I think we found our answer: There’s literally a Marvel character for every person in Hollywood.”

So is it true that eventually every Hollywood actor will get to play a character in the MCU? Well, not literally. But the MCU has hundreds of potential roles and has shown no signs of slowing down. So what it does mean is that every different kind of actor should eventually find themselves represented in the MCU. There’s such a diverse list of characters to choose from that there’s certainly no shortage of parts to play.

What will continue to be interesting is how Marvel casts its many parts. Will the studio continue to blend big stars with unknown names, particularly for more prominent roles? Or will it look to pad the new roles (such as the Fantastic 4 or X-Men) with A-listers? Only time will tell. But Marvel definitely has plenty of parts to experiment with no matter what it chooses to do.
